Classless and insensitive

I'm not taking sides, but I was disgusted by something I observed at the start of the game last night between the Saints and Vikings. I could really care less about the ongoing labor dispute between the owners and players and the "threat" of a lock-out next season. Why could I care less? Because at the end of the day I don't feel sorry for either side. I know the NFL owners and players won't go hungry or for that matter have to eat hamburger instead of filet mignon.  Millionaires fighting over more money. That's what it all boils down to.             If you think I'm wrong that's fine.  I assume you will be taking your wife or friend or children this sunday to an NFL stadium near you to watch a game.  AND NOT because someone gave you tickets and a parking pass!  Please go ahead and pay at a minimum $100 PER TICKET, gas for the drive, $35 for parking, $6.50 a hot dog for your son or daughter, $8.00 a beer, and when your child looks at you with big glassy eyes and says "daddy, can I have a hat of my favorite team to wear during the game" try saying NO to and explain that daddy has a jersey, but you can't have that hat with a $30 price tag.  At a minimum, to take your kid to an NFL game is at least a $400 day.

With that said, I tuned in last night to watch some football. Got comfy, listened to the pre-game, enjoyed the latest version of the Star Spangled Banner, then "BOOM"!   Right after the last note of our national anthem the players from both teams walked on the field and held up their right arms with their index finger pointing to the sky with the international signal of #1. At first I thought, this is great! Immediately after the anthem, I mean almost in tune with the anthem all players are signaling that we are a patriotic country and the USA is number 1.    UHHHHHH, NO, that wasn't it.  It was a planned scenerio to signal that the players were standing as "1" in their labor talks and wanted the public to know............Whew, thanks Drew Brees, I was worried that your $15 million this year wasn't going to be able to feed your daughter and your now pregnant wife who didn't have to seat in the $125 cheap seats, but was comfy in a private suite with all the fixings.     I'm so glad that on the day Tom Brady was "forced" to sign a new $75 million contract we can now all sleep soundly knowing that the players are united.   The players last night were probably thinking that Brady was a dumbass for signing a contract extension for a measly 75 mil!  If he could have just been patient and waited until next year maybe he could have squeezed another mil or two out of the Kraft family!  He'll be sorry when he runs short of cash 2 years from now that he didn't hold out for another $100,000 to help pay the nanny.     .............yesterday I meant with a 77 year old black lady who gets $600 a month from social security. Her choice is to do a reverse mortgage or sell her house. I hope she was watching, because I know she was concerned that neither the players or owners have to miss a meal.

Players, you want to do this after the game or at another appropiate time, go ahead, but not immediately right after the Star Spangled Banner. It shows me they were more concerned with that sign then really listening to the "song". I take my country and patriotism very seriously. Laugh if you want, but if the "shit" ever comes down and the "Towel Heads" attack G-town I'll be locked and loaded unleashing hell from 106 West North Street.

I'm not anti player. I can't stand the owners crying over millions either. So don't respond with my as an anti-labor guy not considering the health risks the players take. Thats' not the case. There simply is a time and a place for everything at that was simply not the time nor the place.

If the NFL does lock-out next year I'll just pay my $30 a ticket and go to U of D or Naval Academy games instead and enjoy a relaxing spirited day on a college campus enjoying the sport from people who play for the love of the game.
