What does Dave Trembley have to do to get fired?
I did not watch the game but all I had to do was look at the box score to realize that Captain Hook was alive and well in Baltimore tonight. Up 5-2 in the 8th, Berken appartantly comes on to get the first out, and thats it. What law says that a relief pitcher has to come in and get one out. Let Berken finish the inning. Its quite simple. Better yet, where is David Hernandez, who was supposed to be moved to the bullpen as a power arm. C'mon Dave, I know your roster is not the best, but if you manage like that get your ass off the bench. I am actually glad this team has sucked this year, because even if they were playing well, Dave would find a way to mess it up.

Ummm Trembley Sucks thats about all i got.
ReplyDeleteOk Frank, I know you're going to fire back at me, but I refuse to put all the O's woes on the shoulders of Dave Trembley. No, I don't think he's a good manager by any means, but with this team what real difference would anyone else make?
ReplyDeleteFor about 14 years now the O's have had the same basic problem.....a suck ass bullpen. And this started long before Dave Trembley cam along. Remember the days Mike Timlin was our closer and used to get consistently lit up? (Then Timlin ends up in Boston and is productive because he was used not as a closer, but how he should have been used as a setup man.)
This organization has not put a premium on a top line closer since Olsen from the early to mid 90's. Other teams have blown leads, but I swear the O's have lost more games in the 8th and 9th innings over the last 14 years than any other team in bball!
The rest of the bullpen is worthless as well. I've said it before, if I was a starter in Baltimore the manager would have to literally drag me off the mound to get me out of a game! There's no way I would let that cast of characters come in and give away my win. Also, I guarantee no big time free agent pitcher will ever come to Baltimore until the bullpen situation is straightened out.
You know, there are former O's who have made it known they would like a chance to manage. Rick Dempsey has interviewed b4 and it's clear the O's won't give him a chance. Scott McGregor has managed in the minor system now for years and Eddie Murray has expressed interest in managing. But, again, Trembley can't take the sole blame....Perlozzo sucked, Hargrove sucked....
It really is a shame. With a lot of young talent comes fragile minds. When you know there's no chance the pen will hold a lead you begin to press and even feel like why try? I do feel as if Gonzalez doesn't blow that win on opening night in Tampa Bay things would be a lot different. No, not division leaders or even .500, but against a team predicted to be a World Series contender and a tight hard fought game that would have done wonders for confidence. The 2 games later Gonzalez blows another save and now all confidence is shot.
Confidence gives you many things. Just look at Adam Jones....I really have not seen him swing at a "strike" in weeks! The opposing pitcher does not have to throw 1 strike in order for Jones to get HIMSELF out. Confidence would allow Jones to look at pitches, even take a strike or two....
What's the answer? Bring up Tillman, et al and just clean house?
Oh and other than Weiters compare the drafts between the O's and Nats. Not only will Strousberg be in the Nats rotation before long, but their last year's #1 pick is already up with the Nats pitching! And it looks like they have a shot at the top hitting position player ij this year's draft! Oh and did I mention they have said they want to try and trade for Oswalt or sign Cliff Lee!!!!!
The O's as an organization has got to be completely overhauled!
