If you havent heard about or seen the boy at the Philles game get tazed you should look it up. I am 100% on the side of the officer here and think it was awesome that cop lite this stupid punks ass up. Im getting sick of all the sports reporters talking about how bad of a thing this was, and they never should have done what they did. Bullshit, they kept arguing he was only 17 and he was going to Penn State next year. So apparently anyone who is 17 and going to college is allowed to do what they want. Make sure you ask those questions next time The Buck before you arrest a kid. The officer is supposed to know that the kid isnt dangerous, How? You dont need a weapon to be dangerous, i cant remember the player but years back he was playing right field and some guy speared him in the back and gave him whiplash. Or when the father and son jumped the fence and beat up the Royals first base coach. Dont bash the cop, praise him, he had the balls to take care of this idiot before someone got hurt.
Was the kid supposed to be on the field? NO! Did the kid stop when the police asked him to? NO! Im not a police officer but it sounds like resisting arrest to me, they should have zapped that idiot twice. To me it sounds like the best solution, tackling someone leaves the possibility of many people getting hurt.
The cops in Philly did do one thing wrong, the next night another jackass ran out on the field they should have dropped his ass also, no it looks like youve gone soft.
I would make being tased if you enter the field of play, part of the security plan for all stadiums and make it know that may help stop people from doing this.
Another thing i would do is on the back of tickets were it has that tiny writing you cant read. It says just by holding this ticket you give up all rights to sue no matter what happens. Add to that if you enter the field of play you are required to pay a 10,000 dollar fine. Bust a couple people with that and i bet you dont see it happen to often.
I think saturday we should all bring tasers and you get to use it once on your opponent, that should even it out for some of us.

Good post Da Booth. I completely agree with you about the tazing(sp) being completely appropriate. The Buck and Motorman can elaborate on this, but I am pretty sure that the taser now is considered equal or less force than hand to hand combat. If that is the case, it is certainly the appropriate solution to an ignorant act.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it would be a great proactive solution to put a hefty fine for running on the field, and definitely post it in clear view. The arguement about alcohol playing a major factor is valid, but if such a fine is instituted, I think it would be a definite deterent.
Over the years running on a sports field during a professional event has become a "Tradition".
ReplyDeleteIn the 70's there was a lady who called her Morgana The Kissing Bandit. She would run on baseball, golf, etc... fields during action and kiss a player. After a time it was almost considered a badge of acceptance to have been kissed by Morgana.
Then as time went on people have grown even bolder. Peter Jacobson tackled a dude streaking across the 18th green at St Andrews one year and received a standing ovation. Mike Curtis of the then Baltimore Colts tackled, and I mean TACKLED, a guy who ran on the field during Super Bowl V.
Now, we live in a dangerous world where we have to be suspicious of everyone. I hate that it's that way, but it's reality. Da Booth pointed out the 2 guys in Kansas City who ran on the field and tried to beat up the 1st base coach. And they were FATHER & SON! Wow! I can't see myself telling my daughter "Hey let's have some laughs and run on Camden Yards and throw punches"
I have grown weary of ESPN lately. 1st, ESPN radio is STILL "breaking" down the NFL draft. GOD, GIVE ME A BREAK! 2nd, they ran with the Dez Bryant "Mommas a ho" story without even having all the facts. Now, they seem to want to condemn the Citizens Bank Park for use of a tazer. They really have developed the attitude that the pro athlete can do no wrong or anythin associated with pro sports.
I say the guy was lucky for only being tazed. I would love seen 3 or 4 philly cops jump his ass and beat the "Rodney King" out of him! I wished as he was walking off the field they would have hit him again.
People in our society are infatuated with fame. Everyone wants to be seen or hear. MySpace, Facebook, etc... run on the field....it's get tiring. 5minutes of fame or infamy. We are not the show. Mike Francesa of 660 The Fan out of New York was discussing this issue yesterday and pointed out a poll taken as to why people don't go to live sports events. One would think the expense....well...the number 1 reason people stated they would rather stay home and watch on tv was the other fans.. People get tired of having to listen to some jerk or drunk. Hell, I've been to the movies with my daughter and had to tell people to quite down because I was tired of having my daughter hear the constant profanity. Again, people want to be the "show". How many times have you been somewhere and felt like telling the dude or chick on the phone next to you "hey, Ass, no one wants to hear your conversation! You're not impressing anybody by showing us you can talk on a cellphone!"
OK, maybe I got off subject. Sorry. I agree with all Da Booth had to say. I also think our policemen and women have better things to do than worry about some punk running on a field.
And Mass....If I was still teaching I'm not sure I wouldn't get into to trouble because I would seriosuly have to think about secretly carrying my .44 in my briefcase. Hell, I carry it sometimes now....I'll be damned if I'm going down lightly.
