OK.....here were are coming into Final Four weekend. It's been a great tournament in that there have been upsets, last second wins, great games etc... If you're a Duke fan, you're stoked! If you like to see the smaller schools do well, you've got Butler to root for. If you like to see different teams, you've got West Virginia who hasn't been to a Final Four in about 40 years.
Now, the worst kept secret has been annouced officially. The NCAA has made it know they will increase the tourney field from the current 64 to 96 teams! 96 teams! What a joke! All this so they can get more games on TV and get more revenue. (Oh and by the way, the players under NCAA rules do get any of it!) The NCAA also claims the tourney will still start on the same day and end the same day. What? How the hell is that gonna happen? Doubleheaders?
Isn't it the NCAA who argues against a football playoff system because they claim it would cause more games, a longer post-season, and more opportunities for a kid to miss class? What hypocrites the NCAA is! Of course I've always known this to be true.
The basketball tourney is one of the sporting events in this country which works well. It's a huge money maker already. Why screw with a good thing! Because GREED runs large corporations and large governing bodies, including the NCAA.
One reason I have no interest in the NBA or NHL regular seasons is that they don't mean anything. I mean they both have 30 teams in each league and 16 MAKE THE PLAYOFFS! Why in the world does anyone buy a ticket and go to the 9th, 12th, 27th game of the season?
I guess if you're a major college basketball team you'll now be able to go 12-12 and make the tournament.
BY THE WAY DID YOU KNOW THE NFL DRAFT IS COMING!

Lets go Duke!!! Is everyone on this blog rooting for Duke? If not, shame on you! I love to watch 3 white guys, minimum, and 4 most of the time, beat the hell out of the brothers. I have to admit, I did not think Duke would make it this far, but now they are the favorite. I hope to see Butler and Duke in the finals. That will be the most white guys on the court in a final since.... the last time Duke was in the finals. So sit back Saturday night, with a cold Bud Light, and enjoy the games. Lets go Duke!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteok. if you're a proud DUKIE then why stay anonymous??????????
ReplyDeleteYou can call me Dukeeeee Vitale baby!!! You better get a TO Mike Brey cause your team is out in the 1st round... im sorry, both your teams, advisor, went out in the 1st round. Better luck next year GO DUKE!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll Duke fans should stay Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteAs for the stupid idea of adding teams. Is roger Goodell running the NCAA it sounds like some stupid idea he would come up with. I agree Fritz its amazing that they squash any idea of a playoff in football because of those bullshit reasons you stated, not the real reason they are afraid they will lose money.
I would like to take back my statement i made in some earlier post that the NCAA tourney was tied with the Masters, if they expand i will drop that and the Masters will be number 1.
Listening to 95.9 the new sports station, which is great although it happen to not work right when the Duke WVU game started. Anyway they were talking about how its not if but when the field will go to 96.
ReplyDeleteThe one guy stated the NCAA said before you decide on if you like this new plan just realize that doing this will come with a finacial deal that will fund ALL championships. Proving it isnt what is best for the NCAA basketball just how they can make the most money.
Playing the Conference Tournaments already takes away half the importance of the regular season. Now expanding the teams pretty mcuh kills the regular season. Analysts did a breakdown of who would have made the 96 team field this year and the Big East would have had 12 or 13 teams in.
I think they should just get rid of all conferences play a 25 game season for seeding then a double elimination tournament where everyteam gets to play. Will make the most money possible.
GO BUTLER!!!!! Dont think they have a chance, but for obvious reasons i am routing for them.
