What a weekend

I'll bad leadoff on this one. First of all, as a big fan of Phil, I am happy to see that he won his third green jacket this weekend. The way he was playing coming into the tournament, there was no way that I though he would play this well. I saw something from Phil today that I haven't really seen in the past and that was that on Sunday, he had a bogey free round. A round that was pretty quiet and sloppy up until the 12th hole. The par saves on 9 and 10 were clutch, and those were the types of holes that in his career he has givin a few strokes back. The only complaint that I have from his round was missing the eagle on 13 after hitting that unbelievable shot from the pine straw. But beggars can't be chosers and he ended up with the green jacket.

It was also nice to see Anthony Kim get some camera time as I forgot he was playing until they finally showed somebody else besides the final two groups when Kim went on his birdie run at 13. Great showing for Freddie this weekend as well, just a shame he couldn't get a few putts to fall early.

Now on to El Tigre, I will say that he is scary good to bve able to post the score he did for as terrible as he was hitting the ball. I do wonder who CBS will send to interview next time as it seems that both guys that interviewed him seemed to piss him off with their questions of his attitude on the course. Personally I am glad he didn't win and it certainly would not hurt my feelings if he never wins another major.

And now for the line of the week. My boy Vern after Tiger has a Tiger Tantrum and drops the ole GD, Vern hits us with the line "I guess some things will never change."

  1. Good weekend of golf...Only bad thing was that, unless you are a Phil fan, Saturday was much more exciting than Sunday. I will say this, that second shot on 13 was one of the most amazing shots I have ever seen. It takes some monster balls to attempt that shot when you are leading the Masters. I was shocked that he played a bogey-free final round as well, but his scrambling was excellent and when he made the birdie on 12, I was pretty sure the tournament was over. Anthony Kim is a birdie machine...When this dude is hot with the putter he could birdie ANY hole, regardless of length or pin placement. Just needs to find the consistency. Does he remind anyone of an early Phil with his nature to go for everything?

  2. It was a good weekend of golf. I didnt mind that Phil won, didnt really care if anyone in the top 8 won, though i was hoping Freddy pulled it off. It was enjoyable to watch, that is when it was actually on TV. And i agree with Frank, me and bottle were watching Sunday and you really had to be paying attention to know that their were actually more than 10 to 12 guys playing. Could have been the worst covered sporting event ever. Rugby is covered better than the Masters was this weekend.

As for Tiger, nice sunglasses! But seriously it is amazing that he could shoot that far under par and be playing like shit (for his standards). Still take Jack though.

And watching those balls roll everywhere on those greens yesterday, NO ONE except maybe Buck breaks 100 or even comes close.

The one thing i got sick of hearing about was Tiger's time off. This has nothing well almost nothing to do with Tiger he cant control it, even though he tries, its about the Media always kissing his ass. Tiger played ok for the time he missed, but they kept talking about how hard the time off has been on him and what he had to go through.

Really? I think there are some golfers going through worse. Wives and mothers being treated for cancer, sons and wives dieing within the last month or so, sick family memebers. How about how tough it is for those guys to play with that going on in their lives, not how hard it must be for a guy who just banged a bunch of bitches that are nowhere close to as hot as his wife. Again not Tigers fault, well the banging the bitches was but the media sucks.

U.S. Open Tiger wins by 5 atleast!!!!

  3. I agree Da Booth. I too am tired of hearing of Tiger's time off as well. Who cares how long he has been off, he created his own problems and now he has to deal with them. I also think that for someone that is so image driven as Tiger is that he brings his dead fathers voice into an ad to pump up his image, his on course demeanor still sucks. I have never seen someone be such a big ass baby after hitting a bad shot that he constantly needs to drop his club in his back swing. I know the Jackets were real happy when he did that on the first tee on Sunday. I am tired of Tiger, cause for 3 and half days this was the Tiger Woods Invitational, only when he was pretty much out of it on the back nine Sunday did we finally not see a live shot of Tiger.

  4. okay guys i'll be the jerk and you can all yell at me if u want, but.....

I watched the masters from about 2:00 on Sunday until about 8:10 with the presentation of the jacket. (i did let the tv watch me for a while also) i would say I heard more about Phil's wife than about Tiger's absence. Definitely not down playing that, but it was spoken about a lot. reason # 1 to hate tiger woods this weekend

    Tiger's commercial/image...
that commercial has as much to do with NIKE as it does him. How come noone is pissed at them for now using tiger's "mistakes" and turning it into cha-ching? you can bet that gillette and buick will be on that bandwagon soon.
he poked his little putter somewhere other than his own green... and so what?!??!!?? sexual infidelity is not illegal, it is however not acceptable behavior. i'm not condoning his actions by any means, but far less serious than some of the other actions by major athletes recently. he screwed women who i am sure knew who he was when they did it, shame on them too.
reasons # 2 & 3 to hate tiger this weekend

Billy Payne made a comment earlier this week...
that tiger had let a lot of peole down, and while I agree with this i am not sure i agree for the same reason. Mr Payne stated that tiger was his hero, his son's hero... well shame on you Mr Payne for letting that person that you dont even know become your hero. And why are you not your son's hero??!?? Like him, love his game, but dont put him up on that pedestal for personal beliefs. i think society has forgotten who these people are, and that is simply people. thats all nothing else, just people. you can very well enjoy his game as much even if you disagree with what he does with his putter. he has never cheated the game of golf.
reason # 4 to hate tiger this weekend.

    tiger woods has competed...
at a level above everyone else's head for years. he brought the game a new excitement that was gone for quite a few years. if mickelson, norman, or even couples had hit that poorly on sunday they would have melted down and turned in a par plus card. i know philly had a few nice recovery shots, but tiger did it 10 out of 18 holes sunday. its called the big "brother syndrome" i.e. he's got it i want it. he has made everyone else play up up to his level, like it or not. phil has certainly up'd his game in the past 10 years. tiger's play says "come get me", and most people can not do it. he has to play at a lower level for most golfers to beat him.
reason # 5 to hate tiger this weekend

    golf fans/coverage...
he entered his first pro tournament on august 29, 1996 and also hit his first pro hole in one. (if that's wrong blame google) like it or not tiger has been interesting and exciting to cover for 14 years. i know a lot of people that only started watching the sport b/c of him. he does not play into the media by feeding them BS. his answers are boring and to the point. he is viewed as an ass if he doesn't give the programed response. if he feels like he didnt hit as good a tee-shot as he could have why should he say "i just feel great to be here at Augsta it is an honor". he worked hard to achieve the honor of being invited. why cant he simply say " i didnt feel as though i played as well as i could have". if you have ever entered any competition "hoping" that you were able to look good and play well then shame on you b/c deep down inside you know pictured yourself raising your hands in victory. he stated that he enters tournaments to win, and just because he admits it makes him not likeable????!!??? C'MON MAN!!!!!
reason # 6 to hate tiger this weekend

you WANT him on that course you NEED him on that course!!!!
