First, the golf classic:
According to the info I have, Team Teeter Totter wil be wearing BLACK. Breakout your black golf shirt. Team FIGJAM will be wearing white. Looks like it's gonna be the battle of the darkside vs the light.
Times have been changed slightly so make note! Be there and unloaded by 8:30am as the first tee time is 9:30AM!!!! We have opening ceremonies, info/format session and tourney group photo.
Keep in mind the night before, Friday the 7th, for a cocktail party to unveil seeded pairings for each format.
Now.....
Again, I am reminded why I pay no attention the NHL regular season or to the NBA at all.
When more than 1/2 the teams in a league make the playoffs the regular season really means zilch! Take the Eastern Division 8th seeded Canadiens upsetting the Capitals. The Caps just so happened to have the best record in the NHL. Then the 7th seeded Flyers beat the #2 NJ Devils. Again, I understand fans want their team to make the playoffs, but come one, do we need 82 games to get to this point?
Now to the NBA.....I have a problem with calling fouls or should I say, not calling fouls.... They don't even keep it a secret anymore that there are two sets of rules. 1 for the average player and 1 for the superstar. I was listening to ESPN radio this week and the guy being interviewed was complaining that Dwight Howard of the Magic was getting called for too many fouls. He said that some fouls while trying to block shots were uncalled for. He claimed the refs should not call him for a foul when he makes "body" contact with the shooter. That Howard has "earned" the right not to be called. That's ridiculous. You either have a rule or you don't. Ever think about how many NBA series's go the 6 to 7 games. How it seems that the home team wins 90% of all home playoff games? Take the Lakers and Thunder. Lakers dominated the 1st two games in LA then all of a sudden get beat 2 games in Oklahoma City. Then back to LA where the Lakers win again.
Hmmmmmm?
Add that to the 4-17 Orioles and that's why I've been watching the Nats.

So much for a winning streak
Well with the way things have gone, a 2 game win streak was huge, its always nice at the end of April when you win back to back games and it doubles your win total for the year. At least Matusz pitches tomorrow.
Also, tip of the hat to the rest of the Calvary. Tillman throwing a no hitter tonight and Arrieta with a .36 ERA on the year.

GOLF
This past week's draft went pretty smooth. Hopefully by now you have checked out the results and schedule posted. If not, You Suck!
I see that Da Booth has picked either black or blue for his team shirt color. Way to out on a limb here. I guess you picked a shirt color to match the color of your ass once TEAM FIGJAM gets done whipping it! (Of course, I know I just left myself out there for some retaliation!)
Of course, my capt. The Buck has decided to go with "ORANGISH". A color I'm sure is overflowing in all of our closets! But, as a total team player, I will make sure to have one if that is indeed the color of choice!!!!!
Again, check out the schedule below. Also, please let me know how many are bringing girlfriends, wifes, etc... to cookout. (So I can stare at them) No seriously....gotta buy enough food..........

On Pace
3 wins in 3 weeks on pace for 26 wins this year
Just finished watching the Orioles actually pull off a late win and not give up a lose. The bullpen tried their best to lose but luckily Clay Meredith came in and accidentally got two outs to secure a victory.
You really cant put any single blame on any part of this team. They have all taken equal opportunities in losing games. I will say the starters with the exception of Bergeson have been fine.
They are showing signs of hitting and i think will be tearing it up offensively here in the next couple of weeks. Just need to let the Starting Pitchers go all 9.
I complained that the bullpen was terrible before the season started and was told on here that the bullpen would be good, im just wondering when are those guys going to start pitching. Even JJ is stinking it up, dont worry Koji is coming soon.
I was wrong on Atkins not starting by May didnt think it would be this soon. Rhyne Hughes was a great pick up.
But seriously the O's have lost a lot of close games, and were in one of the worst hitting slumps as a team that i have ever seen. They should improve on their 3 wins in 3 weeks and finish 500, ok hopefully they dont get 100 loses.

NOW, the teams and formats:
After some dispute on the "cap" flip, the 1st pick of the draft was Da Booth's. Then The Buck surprised all by trading his 2nd round pick for two 3rd round picks, a 5th, and a player to be named later. Da Booth poured over film of all players and scouting reports........only to come to the conclusion that there were no "real" 1st round picks available.
Here are your teams listed in no particular order:
TEAM FIGJAM TEAM TEETER TOTTER
The Buck Da Booth
Fritz Mass-Debator
Chief 77 Bottle Service
Motorman Billy W.
Frank the Tank Anonymous
Keep It Rollin
As you can see we need 1 more player. Contact has been made. Once confirmed, choice will be announced.
FORMATS:
1st 9 Holes: 2-Man Scramble
Since there's 6 on each TEAM, there will be three 2-man "teams" from each TEAM playing
each other. Each match is worth 1 point for a total possible of 3. If a match ends in a tie, each
2-man "team" gets 1/2 point for their TEAM.
Rules: Each 2-man team plays a scramble format. Must use at least 3 drives of each player.
2-man "team" with the lowest total score at the end of 9 holes wins the match.
2nd 9 Holes: 2-Man Team Alternate Shot
Again, 3 teams from each TEAM.
Each match worth 1 point for a total possible 3 overall TEAM points.
Rules: Pick 1 player from the 2-man "team" to tee off on 1st hole. Alternate play between
teammates all the way until ball is holed. Format is "match play". Therefore, lowest score wins
the hole. 2-man "team" with the most holes won during the 9 holes wins the match and a point
for the overal TEAM. Matches ending in a tie result in 1/2 point for each 2-man team.
Alternating play continues through all 9 holes. Meaning...when 1 guy makes a putt, the other
guy must tee off on the next hole.
3rd 9 Holes: Singles
6 players on each TEAM, 6 head-to-head singles matches. Simple!
Each match is "Match Play" - lowest score on a hole wins the hole. Player with most holes
won over 9 holes wins the match.
Each match is worth 1 point for a total possible TEAM points of 6. Ties equal 1/2 point.
Recap: 3 points available in first 9, 3 points available in second 9, 6 points available in last 9 holes.
Total overall TEAM points = 12.
TEAM with the most points at the end wins The Barger Cup!

Mel Kiper's Hair
Ok, so I got home round 8:30ish. figured, what the heck, let's turn on the NFL draft. So far there has been 8 picks. the first 4 went pretty much as planned. What really was the most interesting thing was Mel Kiper's hair! I mean, how do you get that style? The rest of it is really a crap shoot. You hope your team got a good player, there's always injuries and players who just become a "bust".
"THE DRAFT"
It's finally here! We've been waiting for it. You've heard rumors and mock drafts from every source....The wait and anticipation is finally over! The "Draft" is upon us..............
Not the NFL Draft, The One True Word Golf Classic Team Draft!!!!!
It's official. Saturday morning at an undisclosed location myself, The Commish, and team captains, Da Booth and The Buck will be meeting to draft the teams. The excitement around this is more than anything Mel Kiper or Todd McShay could ever hope to report on. How's it gonna happen? Who's gonna be the 1st overall pick? Will any captain "trade up"? What about any after draft trades.......?
We also will be finalizing playing formats that day.
Log in sometime Saturday afternoon to see which team you're on as well as all 3 official playing formats.
Maybe next time we can the "Draft" on channel 47 and the 1st overall pick can hold up a "team" jersey!

TOTW Golf Classic
I need input for our golf classic.......please comment..
My original plans were to play our tourney at Heritage Shores in Bridgeville. However, they have upped their greens fees this year. Therefore I'd like to put a choice before the group regarding $.
We can play Hertiage Shores for the following on a Saturday morning:
1. 18 holes w/cart for $55.00
2. 27 holes w/cart for $75.00
I spoke with them and that's their bottom line.
Disadvantage - higher cost
Advantage - Course is always in excellent condition and it's close to my house for the awards/party.
The Bay Club on a Saturday A.M. :
1. 18 holes w/cart for $45.00
2. 27 holes w/cart for $60.00
Disadvantage - further drive for the after party/awards
Advantage - $15.00 less per person for 27 holes.
Course (especially greens) not as nice as Heritage, but the East Course is usually in very nice.
Please let me know asap......

RULES OF GOLF
One of the many rules of golf include movement of a loose impediment in an area marked as a hazard. The rule simply states that a golfer may NOT ground his/her club while in a hazard, nor may remove or move a "loose impediment" with either your hand, club, etc... The penalty for doing so is a 2-stroke penalty.
Believe it or not this came into play yesterday during the final round of the Verizon Heritage Classic in Hilton Head.
During the final round Jim Furyk and "Tiger Woods" were in the last pairing. Furyk was ahead by 1 stroke. and pars the 18th. Woods hit a tremendous approach shot, made birdie to tie and force a playoff.
So back to the 18th tee for both Furyk and Tiger. Bot miss the green, but Furyk chips to within 8 feet. Tiger misses left and ball comes to rest in a hazard. Tiger then plays a sandtrap type shot out of the hazard. Has about 30 feet for par. BUT WAIT...........Tiger calls over a rules official and say that while hovering his club and in the process of his backswing he nipped a loose "reed". (you know, type of beach grass).
No one else saw it nor could have. It took about a dozen up close slow motion TV shots to really see the club make a single reed wiggle. There was no effect or help to his shot as a result of this. But hey, its the rules and Tiger, being a fine gentleman, calls a 2 shot penalty on himself which gives the playoff and tournament win to Furyk.
Oh, what?....I'm sorry, it wasn't Tiger Woods. It was little known Brian Davis who has never won a Tour event..........................................

Nantzy Boy
I talked about the coverage over Tiger and how I'm sick of all of it. I also stated how i know its not Tigers fault for the most part, i realized this is why i didn't like Tiger for so many years and now i find myself routing for him more often than not.
Jim Nantz just came out chastising tiger for the way he acted and spoke on the course. I understand Tiger said he wouldn't act like that anymore, but he was actually calm compared to the old tiger. It must have been the sunglasses.
Nantz was crying on some radio station about how if he did that at his job he would be fired. You are right Jim you would be, your job is sitting in front of a TV with a microphone talking about a sporting event. Tigers job is playing golf, their is no rule that says he cant curse,(atleast enforced) There is however a rule/law in your profession that says you CANT. How is that the same i dont get it. Nantz is jumping on the hate Tiger band wagon to make himself look cool, there was no bigger Tiger lover than Jim Nantz until Saturday when he realized it would benefit him to bash Tiger.I never saw Nantz go on the radio bashing on those college coaches and players in the NCAA tournament who cursed everytime down the court.
Here is an Idea, if you dont want Tiger to curse on air dont set up bomb mic's that pic up everything he says from 300 yards away, i think Tiger should sue for invasion of privacy.

What a weekend
I'll bad leadoff on this one. First of all, as a big fan of Phil, I am happy to see that he won his third green jacket this weekend. The way he was playing coming into the tournament, there was no way that I though he would play this well. I saw something from Phil today that I haven't really seen in the past and that was that on Sunday, he had a bogey free round. A round that was pretty quiet and sloppy up until the 12th hole. The par saves on 9 and 10 were clutch, and those were the types of holes that in his career he has givin a few strokes back. The only complaint that I have from his round was missing the eagle on 13 after hitting that unbelievable shot from the pine straw. But beggars can't be chosers and he ended up with the green jacket.
It was also nice to see Anthony Kim get some camera time as I forgot he was playing until they finally showed somebody else besides the final two groups when Kim went on his birdie run at 13. Great showing for Freddie this weekend as well, just a shame he couldn't get a few putts to fall early.
Now on to El Tigre, I will say that he is scary good to bve able to post the score he did for as terrible as he was hitting the ball. I do wonder who CBS will send to interview next time as it seems that both guys that interviewed him seemed to piss him off with their questions of his attitude on the course. Personally I am glad he didn't win and it certainly would not hurt my feelings if he never wins another major.
And now for the line of the week. My boy Vern after Tiger has a Tiger Tantrum and drops the ole GD, Vern hits us with the line "I guess some things will never change."

The Masters
After the first 2 days of this year's Masters Tournament we have in store for us a GREAT weekend of golf!
Matter of fact, we have already had 2 days of great golf. I don't hide the fact The Masters is my all time favorite tournament. If I could pick 1 course to play it would be Augusta. Some of the holes don't look that hard, but there's so much slope on the fairways and undulation on the greens that danger lurks everywhere. At the same time, if you hit the shot the course rewards the player with the opportunity to really score. Both #13 and 15 are par 5's which are reachable and allow for eagles making a back nine charge possible.
Goin into today the leaderboard looks as such:
-8 Ian Poulter
-8 Lee Westwood
-6 Tiger Woods
-6 KJ Choi
-6 Ricky Barnes
-6 Anthony Kim
-6 Phil Mickelson
-5 Y.E. Yang
-3 Tom Watson
-3 Fred Couples
-3 Soren Kjeldsen
That's a cool leaderboard! I don't mind Ian Poulter because he seems to respect the game and history of golf. Having Tiger in contention makes any leaderboard more exciting. Anthony Kim is a possible rising American star and we can use that. Tom Watson at 60, how can you not pull for him to not blow up a big round? I'm really pulling for Freddy's back to hold on for 2 more days. He's mister cool.
I don't think the winner will come from the following, but let's not overlook anyone else under par at this point:
-2 Trevor Immelman (past Master's champ. how I don't know)
-2 Hunter Mahan (get rid of the "gay" white rimmed sunglasses!)
-1 Sean O'Hair
-1 Kenny Perry
-1 Matt Kuchar (no way that inside swing holds up for 4 days on this course)
-1 Dustin Johnson
-1 Mike Weir (a "tool"!)
-1 Robert Karlsson
The following are all at "Even Par":
Francesco Molinari
Nick Watney
Zach Johnson
Sergio Garcia
Adam Scott
David Toms
Steve Marino
Bill Haas
Ernie Els
Out of this group, only Els has the ability to make a weekend run.
Sit back and enjoy cuz it's gonna be a great 2 days

DAY 1
The first round of The Masters has come to a end and it is certainly gearing up to be an exciting tournament.
No surprise that "Boom Boom" is atop the leader board after firing a silky smooth 66. I saw one shot where he had a short wedge into the green and stuck it to like 4 feet. I swear he swung so slow and easy that he almost stopped the swing before he it the ball. The man has the smoothest swing out there.
Tommy Watson is showing some brilliance, again, just like last year at The Open Championship.
Mass... Your boy held it together and will probably be a contender on Sunday... If he can hold it together that long and keep the heroics in the bag.
Would love to see Phil and Tiger in the final paring on Sunday.
Kind of scary that Tiger shoots his lowest opening round ever at Augusta. Hasn't played in roughly 5 months but it certainly doesn't look like it. That is if you by into the hype that 5 months off is a really, really long time away from golf? I don't!
I just hope that it isn't a situation, like we all have, where you haven't played in a while and shoot lights out the first time you play. Then the next round you suck donkey nuts.
Either way the leader board currently has several guys I can root for and several guys I can root against... So it should be a fun 3 days of golf watching.

Tick Tock... Tick Tock
Here we go!!! We are now inside the 12 hour mark and tomorrow morning The King and The Golden Bear will kick things off as The Masters Honorary Starters.
At 7:50 a.m. group 1 will tee off and I will be glued to the flat screen as much as possible.
There are not many things better than lying on the couch and watching The Masters. This is a television event that you can actually sleep during , yet somehow your subconscious is still watching.
I won't make any predictions on who will win but I'm sure we will see the usual suspects atop the leader board.
A young, unknown amateur will play well the into Saturday only to fizzle out on Sunday.
The foreigners will have a good showing and at least 1 will vie for the title on Sunday.
Thursday and Friday will have some unknown pro in the top 3 but he will be lucky to finish in the top 33.
Some old timer will shoot 79/85 and miss the cut.
Several well named pros will also miss the cut and at least one will have a quad bogey or higher on a hole.
Someone in contention on Sunday will drop it in the drink on the back nine.
Ok... I will make 1 prediction... Tiger wins it... if not the person who does will be a first time Masters winner.
Here is who I like....
1) Camilo Villegas
2) Anthony Kim
3) Lee Westwood
4) Paul Casey
5) Tiger Woods
Here is who I don't like...
1) Padraig Harrington
2) Phil Mickelson
3) Ernie Els
4) Rory Mcllroy
5) Sergio Garcia
Dark Horse(s)...
1) Freddy Couples
2) David Duval
3) Bernhard Langer
Good luck!!!

DUKE
Okay i hate Duke as much most likely more than anyone on this site. So let me be the first to say CONGRATS to them and all you fans on here. Wow that hurt typing. Right now i am watching Dickey V and Jay Bilas blow each other with Duke jerseys on.
Seriously though, Duke did what no other top ranked team could do. That is beat the team they were playing. They came out each game played hard and didnt take any team lightly. Good season and i cant wait for the young bucks at UNC to whip up on those defending champs next year.
Just think the Cinderella team next year could be Del St. since it seems every team in the country will get in the tourney.

Masters Week
It's finally here....Springtime is upon us....temperatures have been great....the itch to play golf is great.....it's time for the "Grandaddy", The Masters.
After weeks of preparation and polls, we bloggers have voted Camillo Villegas as the favorite to win, a tie between Jack Nicklaus and Fred Couples for our all time favorite Masters winner, and the likelihood most of us would shoot above 100 at Augusta.
This tournament was conceived by Bobby Jones and Cliff Roberts. It was an opportunity to have a "Gentleman's" golf tourney to celebrate the pro golfer and upper crust society. There was and still is a vision of decorum at Augusta. The crowds are respectful. The clubhouse and course are immaculate. The caddies are required to wear a uniform and no shorts. The winning of the green jacket is actually bigger than the trophy handed out.
This year we have multiple questions to add to the dramatics.....Will Tiger play well?.....Will Ernie Els continue to play well?........Can Fred Couples transfer his hot Seniors year over to one of the "Majors"?......Who's the Europeans' best chance to win?
If I was a pro golfer and could pick only 1 major to win, it would be The Masters.
I will watch as much as possible this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm even more than ever looking forward to TOTW Golf Classic on May 8th

In Andy i dont trust
McNabb to the Redskins for a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th next year
I wrote this post about five times and kept erasing everything i wanted to say. I will instead make it short and sweet. Andy is a dousche and this was a horrible trade. The 37th pick is a good pickup but why trade within the division. Chalk up two loses already for next year.

WHY????
On an Irish football news front and in the world of "WHY" there's sad news to report.
Top recruit Matt James, a 6'6" 291lb offensive tackle, has died while on Spring Break in Panama Florida.
James was 17 years old and just out of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of the nation's most sought after recruits after making first team All-American high school team by USA Today. James recently had played in the US Army All-American Bowl in Texas.

That's the facts, now here's my view, agree or not.
This is yet again another trajedy about a high schooler dying while on spring break! We have a kid who gets a full ride to one of the nation's most prestigious schools for academics and to play big time college football. Chances are, if he starts for 4 years and plays well he probably has a good chance of being draft by an NFL team. A life that a lot of people would love a chance at.
Instead we have to hear about a 17 year old falling off a 4th floor hotel balcony and falling to his death. A life ended prematurelu because of stupidity on spring break!
Why, I ask, are 17 year olds on spring break? When did it become the norm for high schoolers to go on spring break? Don't the parents have any control anymore? They have to realize that nobody is playing miniature golf while in Panama City! Am I the only one who sees the highlights of kids while in Panama City. Didn't the parents see the episode of "Cops" from Panama City arresting all the over drunk immature kids?
I'm sure Matt James had just a more than a little alcohol in his system while hanging on a 4th floor balcony and accidently falling!
Why can't parents be a little more controlling these days? Why, "Ok son, we'll pay for a week in Panama City with all the drunk college kids. Have a great time. Hey, here's a jug of tequila for you to take. Get plastered for me son so I can live my youth again through you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Once you are 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and in college yes you are considered an adult. If you want to work for your money to pay for the trip then I guess it's on you. But as a parent as long as the kid lives in your house you have some controls. Some sense of teaching responsibility. Some way to say, "Hey kid, if you want to get jello-plastered while in Panama City please be careful and use your head."
Then again, do the nation's youth live in a bubble and don't see the stories them selves of the trajedies which occur. Anyone remember Natalie Holliway. 17 and has yet to find her remains. I guaran f&$KING tee you my daughter won't be going on spring break at 17!!!
Oh well, at 17 we are all invincible right? Guess I'm just a 44 yr old rambling and out of touch! Have a nice day Mr. and Mrs. James.

WHY RUIN A GOOD THING?????? ANSWER: GREED
OK.....here were are coming into Final Four weekend. It's been a great tournament in that there have been upsets, last second wins, great games etc... If you're a Duke fan, you're stoked! If you like to see the smaller schools do well, you've got Butler to root for. If you like to see different teams, you've got West Virginia who hasn't been to a Final Four in about 40 years.
Now, the worst kept secret has been annouced officially. The NCAA has made it know they will increase the tourney field from the current 64 to 96 teams! 96 teams! What a joke! All this so they can get more games on TV and get more revenue. (Oh and by the way, the players under NCAA rules do get any of it!) The NCAA also claims the tourney will still start on the same day and end the same day. What? How the hell is that gonna happen? Doubleheaders?
Isn't it the NCAA who argues against a football playoff system because they claim it would cause more games, a longer post-season, and more opportunities for a kid to miss class? What hypocrites the NCAA is! Of course I've always known this to be true.
The basketball tourney is one of the sporting events in this country which works well. It's a huge money maker already. Why screw with a good thing! Because GREED runs large corporations and large governing bodies, including the NCAA.
One reason I have no interest in the NBA or NHL regular seasons is that they don't mean anything. I mean they both have 30 teams in each league and 16 MAKE THE PLAYOFFS! Why in the world does anyone buy a ticket and go to the 9th, 12th, 27th game of the season?
I guess if you're a major college basketball team you'll now be able to go 12-12 and make the tournament.
BY THE WAY DID YOU KNOW THE NFL DRAFT IS COMING!

Why ????
I see yet another professional athlete has been arrested for felony gun possession charges.
Shaun Rogers, the Cleveland Browns All Pro DT, was recently arrested for possessing a .45 caliber handgun. (More to come)
I can somewhat (barely) understand that professional athletes and celebrities are often hounded by fans and the media, and can be possible targets of some unsavory people due to their fame and money.
It is also true that many pro athletes and celebrities carry concealed handguns and I'm sure some have vaild permits to carry. Most of them though I would venture to say don't have valid permits to carry.
It seems to me that pro athletes and celebrities feel they "have the right to carry a hangun and that their fame/money justifies carrying a handgun. If you are in that much danger then go through the proper channels and get a permit to carry. Sure you can't carry outside the state it is issued in, and most celebs travel a lot, but at least it would look a hell of a lot better if you are caught with a gun.
The other thing is why does it always seem like the people getting caught with guns, drugs, dui, etc.., are always the stars or well known people. It's the likes of Arenas, Burress, etc., etc., etc.. You never hear of Felton Huggins (Bill's 5th string receiver) on the news for any of this shit. I don't know of Felton ever doing anything wrong but if he did I bet you wouldn't hear of it.
It's like the incident comes over the news wire... "NFL player charged with carrying a handgun at a movie cinema. Ooh Ooh! Who was it? Felton Huggins. Who? Felton Huggins. Who the hell is that? Oh forget about it."
Now back to Shaun Rogers.
I can see Arenas bringing guns into the locker room. I'm sure he thought he wouldn't get caught. I can see Burress bringing a gun into a club. I'm sure he thought he wouldn't get caught.
Shaun Rogers tried to bring his loaded handgun onto a airplane in his carry on bag. Is this guy just plain stupid? He is black so maybe that's why? (Just kidding Frank).
Yes... There are cases of individuals sneaking bad things onto airplanes. But it's usually hard to detect items like underwear or shoes made of C4 or Tiger Wood's mistresses. Kind of hard to detect with a x-ray machine and/or metal detector.
Does this dope really thing a gun in a bag, going thru a x-ray machine, wouldn't get detected?
I guess not because I can think of no other reason why someone would try such a thing.
Ooops! How did that get in there?
