Spring is hope eternal....

Just thought I would post a pick of my upcoming favorite pro golf event....THE MASTERS.   I absolutely love this tournament.  The view of the golf course....The history...Past Champions....Nicklaus won it 6 times!!!!!

Do you have any feelings or memories of The Masters??

  1. I have to agree with Fritz. The Masters is by far my favorite golf tournament and in my top 3 sporting events overall (After the NFL and NCAA football of course). It's probably the only tournament I watch all 4 days - all day long.

The Masters has it's own identity and in my opinion the most prestigious of the four majors.

The course is immaculate and one of the most difficult in the world. Green speeds are lightning ass fast and every year they seem to lengthen it making it that much more difficult.

It's a course where anyone can win and anyone can lose it (ask Greg Norman). A 21 year old rookie can blowout the entire field or a 46 year old vet can whip the youngsters.

Here are my top ten Masters moments. The ones I can remember seeing myself, so they will be more current. Sorry there won't be a lot of memories from pre 1980.

    10) Phil Mickelson's first major win in 2004. Don't like him much but he finally won and I got to stop hearing about the best player yet to win a major.

    9) Tiger's chip in on hole 16 (yes DA Booth... I said it... Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger. Now I've opened the door for you). The shot was as much luck as skill but it was an amazing shot and it got the momentum going for him. As we all know the man knows how to score!!!

    8) Tom Weiskoph's 13 on hole 12. He Tin Cupped it by blasting 5 (yes 5) balls into the water before hitting the green.

    7) Jose Maria Olazabal's 1999 win (his second). One of my favorite golfers so I had to put him on here. Impressive because he hadn't played golf for 2 years due to some nerve issue with his back and legs. Doctors said he would hardly be able to walk let alone golf again. Found a Doc that knew what he was doing and the rest is history.

    6) Fred Couples velcro ball on hole 12 during 1992 Masters. The ball hit the front of green them spun back off the green down a 80 degree bank. Certain to go in the water the stopped about a 4 inches from the water. I say its equal to rolling a golf ball from the top off your roof and it suddenly stops 4 inches from falling off the bottom. He won.

    5) Watching the Masters to see if I could see Sandy Moore working the ropes!!! Some of you won't get it. And Greg Norman getting his ass kicked by Nick Faldo. Greg had like a 6 shot lead with 9 holes to play and lost by like 4. You do the math.

    4) The 13th hole at Augusta. My favorite hole in golf. Plus I have to nice framed pictures of the hole I won for back to back long drives at the Camp Barnes Tourney. Thanks John "Little Pete" Messick.

    3) Tiger Woods 1997 victory. Record for largest margine of victory (+12), youngest winner (21), and lowest 4 day total (270). Impressive!!!

    2) The Golden Bear's 1986 win. 46 years old and he wins his 6th green jacket. I think his son Jackie, who was his caddy, shit his pants he was so nervous. More Impressive!!!

My #1 Masters moment of all time!

    1) 2002 Masters is the best ever because for the four days there were no commercials. NOT ONE!!! Hootie Johnson (Augusta National President at the time) was getting heat from Martha Burk and a bunch of feminist bitches. They were insisting sponsors of the Masters pull out because no women are allowed in the club.

Did Hootie collapse under the pressure. Hell No!!! He told those chicks to fuck off and then told the sponsors to fuck off. Augusta National paid CBS to air the event commercial free.

    Great Job Hootie!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 8th - 11th... We should have a Masters party??????

  3. I love the Masters. I am stuck trying to think of some other sporting event i like more, It may tie with the Ncaa basketball tournament.

I cant agree with The Buck more on his list. Hootie bitching everyone in 2002 was awesome. I wish he would come back.

Let me say this expecting a load of shit from The Buck - If Tiger plays he wins. You know the first couple times you play after you havent played in awhile that you play your best.

Lets make sure if we play, that it is well before we watch the Masters. I would hate to watch the Masters and that great course to just go play on a shitty one.

  4. Great Post Fritz...Everytime I see the commercials showing the course, I get super stoked. Easily the best golf tournament, and equal to the NCAA tourney for me as far as overall sporting events. My favorite memory of the masters is a few years back where I sat on the couch for 4 straight days in Myrtle Beach and watched every minute of the action. Played golf in the AM, Masters and drinks all afternoon. It was great. Being a Mickelson fan, I have to mention the 2004 Masters, with one of the greatest back 9's in Masters History. I had Easter dinner at my wife's families house, and had to leave for it as Phil was finishing up the front 9. I get to the house where there is not a TV on. I finally get to a TV as they are showing a replay of him draining the putt on 18 to win. My rage ultimately went through the roof. I sat there the rest of the night now saying a word. Talk about getting bitched by the wife, I could have been the posterchild that day.

  5. Count me in for a day of golf and Masters watching.

I'm off that weekend so whatever day we decide is alright with me.

If it's Sunday I say we all wear red in honor of Eldrick Tont Woods son Earl.

Mass-Debator... Sorry you had to miss Phil's epic win and his 2 inch vertical jump on the 18th hole.

It always seems some event, out of our control, comes up on Sunday afternoon during the big golf tournamnets. I feel for ya!!! And us all!!!

We've all been there! Trying to watch with people blocking the TV. Everyone talking over the sound of the TV and some dopey relative or in-law who thinks they know what they are talking about.

I prefer the confines of solitude at my home, on my couch, in front of my big screen. No destractions!!!
