Beautiful weather is on the way and there are more sports to be played than Golf. Baseball starts Sunday night and more importantly the Orioles start next Tuesday on their quest for their 13th straight losing season. I hold out hope for a .500 team this year, but I think the odds of me using my SW all day in TOTW golf classic is greater. But here are my ten predictions for the O's this year.
1. Markakis will finally get to an All Star game
2. Matusz will win 15 games and be the rookie of the year
3. Brian Roberts will battle his back all year long and have less than 20 steals
4. Mike Gonzalez will have at least 2 stints on the DL
5. Wieters wil hut 25 HR and have 100 RBI
6. Luke Scott will get traded because...
7. Felix Pie will be full time LF by end of year
8. Garett Atkins will hit .275 with 20 HR's
9. Tejada will have 180 hits and 150 will be singles
10. Tejada will lead the league in hittting into double plays

1. I hope so too.
ReplyDelete2. I too think Matusz will get 15 plus, but Trembley does such a great job with pitchers he will probably yank him before he qualifies for wins.
3. Saw Roberts fight off a foul ball last night and he was about to cry.
4. Im thinking 3 for Gonzo, where's Johnson.
5. Wieters good to go
6. Luke Scott wont be traded he will hit HR's in 10 straight games and finish the year with 13.
7. Felix Pie will be treated like he is Ken Griffey Jr. in his prime even though he hasnt proven he can to anything for extended period. Yes, Riemold hasnt proven much either but he has only had 5 months to do it not years like Pie.
8. Atkins wont be starting after May.
9. Tejada will do alot better than you think. I will take 180 hits from 3B, did mora come close to that in the last 4 years.
10. Good chance of that happening.
1. Markakis should have made last year's all- star game.
ReplyDelete2. If Matusz gets 15 wins, I bet he still
doesn't get rookie of the year.
3. Roberts is on the decline
4. Mike Gonzalez? doesn't exactly send chills
down A-Rod's back
5. 25 for Wieters is a stretch this year
6. Scott will get just enough playing time to
tease us. will do his usual....17 homers
and 18 rbi's
7. If Pie's in left, hopefully that means
Riemold will be at 1st
8. Signing of Atkins is a 2nd tier move. You
all are too young to remember, but can
any of you say "Dan Ford", "Keith Moreland",
or "Glenn Davis".?????Might as well through
$ out of the warhouse windows
9. If Tejada gets 180 hits, he's got to hit
more than the 4 homers Mora hit last year
10. Hope not
11. I'd like to add one more thing to look
forward to this season........
Albers, Sarfate, Kam Mickolio, Johnson,
Hendrickson and the rest of the bullpen
Well Fritz, Sarfate and Mickolio will be in Norfolks bullpen to start the season, so unless some injuries happen it may be awhile before you see them and you may never see Sarfate again.
ReplyDeleteFrank...u need to start studying and quit bloggin
ReplyDeleteAlot of question marks heading into this year.
ReplyDeleteWill Roberts be healthy?
Can the young pitchers grow to be effective?
Will the bullpen finally give us some stability?
The one I find most interesting will be how Dave gets ABs to Pie and Reimold without completely forgetting about Luke Scott. DaBooth, I know you are open with your hatred for Pie, but I really think you secretly love him and have your Pie jersey tucked away in the back of your closet, just waiting for the right opportunity to jump out of that closet with the jersey on. I think that I speak for all Orioles fans on this blog when I say DaBooth, please come out of that closet!!!
Mass - I am really not sure which is greater my hatred for Pie or How much you love him. I will be honest i think he is one of the better maybe even best fourth outfielders in MLB. However if he plays more than a week he begins to show how average he is. My hatred does sway my opinion alittle one way but i am wise enough to realize he is a good backup. I do not however get how people like yourself love him so much when he has done nothing as a starter to deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI understand why Pie is starting opening day as Trembley has said he doesn't want Reimold and his bad wheel playing on that turf. Understandable. But what really bothers me is why Like Scott did not get more time last year at first base and this spring. He could have been the full time 1B and it would have allowed Trembley to rest guys in the outfield alot more as he would have 4 guys to shuffle through and use the other as a DH. There are planty of AB's to go around in a long season, I just hope Dave "The Hammer" Trembley uses his roster wisely.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing i saw on Scott was an interview Trembley did in the offseason that they were very unhappy with the way Scott played defense at first. Trembley didnt feel he could do it fulltime. I dont remember him playing much so i cant recall if he had trouble or not.
ReplyDeleteI really don't love Pie that much, just think the lineup is a little more versatile with him AND Reimold in it as opposed to one or the other. I guess we will see how it plays out. Hopefully they both play well.
ReplyDeleteOkay i see where your coming from. Let me restate my comment. If it is between Reimold and Pie i want Reimold. Now if one is at DH that is fine. I just think Markakis Jones Reimold is a better outfield than if Pie is in for anyone of them.
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with that. I just think Luke Scott clogs up the situation, as I just don't feel that he is going to give the consistent production that we would be looking for from a DH/1B type. Now he might outproduce Atkins, but not Reimold/Pie. I think the gap between Reimold and Pie's defensive ability is greatly exaggerated. But you have to give Reimold starters playing time, cause he could give you 25 bombs easy.
ReplyDeleteFrank, do you really think that is the numbers Atkins will put up this year? Man that is high hopes.
ReplyDeleteThats my one bold prediction, I say that just because every Oriole fan seems to hate on the dude. Plus working with thE Crow helps to, especially after seeing the imrpovement of Pie at the plate last year.
ReplyDeleteHello! My name is The Buck and I am a Cleveland Indians fan.
ReplyDeleteI said it!!! What a relief!!! I am so thankful that I am not alone and there really are others out there who root for shitty teams too.
I to dream of plus 500 seasons, pennant races, playoffs, and maybe even a World Series ring.
I to wish for competent management that will spend some money to better the team.
Now I am no huge baseball fan but I do follow the Inidians and any game where the Yankees are losing.
But I do know one thing about the Inidians. I can guarantee that they WILL NOT resign or WILL TRADE a star player if they have one.
Lets see.... Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Roberto Alomar, Manny Ramirez, CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee... Just to name a few.
Maybe Indians' Management is waiting for the day Willie Mays Hayes, Roger Dorn, and Ricky Vaugn show up and take them all the way.
Who Knows??? I do know it will be another year vying for last place.
Tomahawk Chop!
I certainly feel your pain. Although it must be devastating to see all that premium talent be traded each and every year, look at it this way...At least you get to watch premium talent. We are busy each year watching the likes of Luis Matos, Geronimo Gil, Larry Bigbie, etc. I dream of the days when the Orioles and the Indians met in the playoffs back in the late 90s. Those were the good ol' days. Hopefully, they can get it together and make it back to the glory days.
ReplyDeleteDont forget Felix!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow that we have traded for Julio Lugo, I am a little more concerned about the back of a one Brian Roberts. Another prediction, Lugo will get the ole DFA tag by then end of the year, check that, make it the all star break
