I'll bite.....
Now let me begin by saying that I have never been a Tiger fan (sorry Buck), so my opinion on this might be slightly skewed towards the negative.
As many people probably now know, Eldrick has made the shocking announcement that he is coming back for the Masters on April 8th. He has decided that this tournament is the place that is the most appropriate for him to return to competitive golf after his "lengthy" absence. More on that in a minute. His respect for the tradition of the Masters and the fact that this tournament "would be the earliest I could play" were major factors in the decisions.
My many thoughts on this...
After hearing this announcement, I found myself blacked out and laying face down in the floor, soaked in my own astonishment. What a big shocker. Was I the only one that knew this guy was a liar the whole time and never had any....ANY....intention of missing a major golf tournament. "I do plan on returning to golf one day, I just don't know when...I don't rule out that it could be this year." C'mon Dude, you are full of shit. Less than a month ago you said that, and now you are back??? What changed??? Is he now cured of his addiction? In a few weeks time, his family turmoil has cleared up? Now that is really none of my business, I will admit that. But I will say that this announcement today made his announcement a few weeks ago seem like a farce.
Lengthy absence??? The reality is, he will have missed four tournaments. Pebble Beach, Match Play, Doral (maybe) and Bay Hill. That hardly qualifies as a lengthy absence. Unfortunately, this guy treats the media and the public like they are complete idiots and cannot see through this bullshit.
Now I try very hard not to wish ill will towards any man, and I admit it is a constant struggle at times (this qualifies as one of them). However, if this egomaniac does not make the cut at the Masters, I will hardly shed a tear.
I have always said that what a man does tells much more about him than what he says. Tiger is returning to golf a few short weeks after saying that his family life is the most important thing to him. Which is more important to him? You make the decision.

Well I can't argue with any of that. I have listened to sports talk all day long and from what I am hearing is that Tiger was going to come back at Bay Hill, but he sent out his team to scout out the place and they realized that they simply can't control the media there. At the Masters, things will be much more under control and it will be alot easier on him to make his first appearence there. I too hope he misses the cut, I just wish Jesper didn't retire and could play in the Masters and be his playing partner. Now that would be funny.
ReplyDeleteI can't really say I'm shocked either.... Augusta National is really the best case scenario for a return. The Masters committee controls all media interviews and media badges. No media rep. is going to get out of control for fear of losing future Masters perks. The crowd at The Masters is the most polite in all of golf and will not treat him like the crowd at a British Open....
ReplyDeleteI would have thought he would have returned for Arnie's Bay Hill since he's won it 4 years in a row.
I read in Golf Digest that the clinic Tiger attended in Mississippi was called "Gentle Path". What bullshit! Why didn't I think about starting a clinic to help recover from sex adDICKtion. I like sex, a lot of sex, guess I must be addicted. Must work since Tiger's cured after only a couple of weeks!
The biggest crock is Elin not leavin him. Proves my point! Ive always said if you have a choice to pick from good looks, money, or a big dick. Money is the best female attractor there is.....
Ok!!! The chum is in the water and you have lured me in so here we go.
ReplyDeleteMass Deb - You don't have to apologize to me. I understand some people/fans don't appreciate greatness, have their subjective opinions, and root for THEIR own team and guys. I guess that's why you don't like Tiger and love Duke.
And before we get started let me clear something about my so called lust for Tiger.
I appreciate greatness and enjoy watching superiors players dominate.
I was a huge Bulls fan when MJ played and enjoyed watching him dominate the competition.
I was not a 49ers fan but loved to watch Montana pick the defenses apart.
I watch in awe when Usaine Bolt shatters world records, and the competition, by running like he is thinking about what he wants to do later.
So if watching Tiger drop birdie after birdie on hole 18 to win 70+ events/14 majors is me being on Tiger's side... Oh well. I will just laugh when you all get upset over him whipping your guy's ass.
Now that that is covered lets move on.
I know a lot of you guys already didn't like Tiger because of the media attention he receives. But I can undertsand because they never showed Jack all the time when he was playing.
I think it's funny how mad and upset you guys are getting over this. If you thought he was really going to sit out 2 or 3 years to work on shit then shame on you.
Why does it really matter what he does. It's his life, his marriage, his job.
I love how everyone has an opinion on what he should do. I think the public embarrassment itself probably cured him of ever doing it again. Sure, he may have the urge but the thought of having to go thru this shit again will keep his biscuit in his basket.
What's everyone's great idea on what he should do or have done? Everyone deals with shit in different ways so why is he different.
I'm sure some people thought I should of cried at my mom's funeral but I didn't. Maybe I should of stayed home from work, with my family, for 2 years and undergone psyhciatric treatment until popular opinion thought I was fit to carry on with my life.
He did a lot more than most addicts do. Most people couldn't even afford to go, refuse to go, or have other responsibilites that prohibit them from going.
As far as him coming back to the Masters... Sure it has something to do with the control but you think Arnie wouldn't kick out the asshole media guys if they acted up? Come on!!!
Well Fritz... There is one thing we can agree with. Money supercedes all and it obviously shows here. I think it would of been best for all, in the long run, if she did leave his ass.
I to think it would be funny if he played with Jasper at the Masters. Wait... Jasper isn't even in the field. Awwwww Man
The Buck, you captivate me with your posts. First you come out with a beautiful rundown about grocery stores then you knock me off my feet with this wonderful reply. I couldn't agree with you more.
ReplyDeleteIm a Tiger fan as well, but I do think that what he did was immoral and wrong, but it's not like he pulled an O.J. ... It should be dealt with in his own home and that is whats happening. I'm pretty sure that if it werent agreed upon by both sides then the return would probably be dealyed further.
I was watching some old guys on Comcast Sportsnet (they were dumb as shit) talk about this return. They were all pretty much in agreement that returning to the Masters would be too early and not enough time off to count as an apology. Apologize to who??? Golf fans? Im a golf fan and I dont want an apology. I want to watch the #1 player in golf play. And don't give me the "well he has enough money he doesnt need to play so he needs to stay locked up in his home and get his life straight". I would think him playing only has to do with him getting his life back close to normal as it can get.
And as for the whole curing of the Sex Addiction thing. How does playing or not playing golf have anything to do with curing his sex addiction. Unless hes won all those tournements while day dreaming of having sex with all his bimbos...
Well... he would be the man that could pull that off.
I'm not saying that he needs to do this or he needs to do that. The main point of my post (which I thought was fairly clear) was that he is saying one thing and doing another. At his first press conference (if you can call it that) he stated that he didn't know when he would come back if at all this year. Then, miraculously in a few weeks time he is back. Honestly, if he were to have never made that statement, I don't think I write the post at all. But it angers me that he makes these contradictory statements and the public runs with it as truth. Yeah right.
ReplyDeleteAnd Buck, I too am a golf enthusiast. I enjoy Tiger's craft on the golf course. He is unlike any player that I have seen. I guess I am just overdosed on him, and I guess that is not really his fault. But when you hear for 10 years every second of every broadcast how much of a God this guy is, and then something like this happens, it is easy to have strong feelings. At least it is for me.
I guess it's now time for me to clarify a few points.....
ReplyDeleteI don't hate Tiger. Never have. Matter of fact a tournament is more interesting with him near the lead come Sunday. I hope the back nine at Augusta has him, Phil, Sergio, Camillo, et al all within 4 shots of one another! That would be cool... Can't say I would be pulling for Tiger though!
What I get tired of is how ALL of our major sports "heros" in this country act. I agree with one thing MASS says....That's the fact Tiger makes the comment that he doesn't know when he's coming back and then POOF here we go.... But then again, for all you Bret Favre fans I also get tired of him retiring and unretiring over and over again. As a Miami Dolphin fan I can't stand Nick Saban anymore after he ran my team in the ground, said he was going no where and had a job to do then within A WEEK announces he's going to Alabama! Then how about Rich Rodriguez who gets to come back and be head football coach at his alma mater (sp?) West Virginia. Claims it's his dream job and how happy he is, the right before a huge BCS bowl game 2 years ago announces he's leaving for Michigan.
Charles Barkley was right and I respect Sir Charles for this...he says he's not a role model and never was...and urges parents to not let their kids make pro athletes role models. At least Charles is honest....like it or not...
BUCK....you know I love sports...you should know by now my affection for Jack Nicklaus. I still do and always will believe that Jack is the best golfer to have ever lived. PArt of that has to do with the majors and if Tiger gets his 18 (Jack claims 20 because he won 2 amateurs) then I'll put El Tigre right there......What they both have in commen is the will, desire, and pure determination to win. If my life were on the line and I had to pick a guy to make a 10 foot right to lefter, it would be one of those two.
Where I do get bored it with the media and there "God-Like" treatment. I still think Paul Azinger still secretly wants to cuddle next to Tigger's ballsack. David Feherty is not far behind.
My last word...and The Buck I am more on your side than you think......Jack was hitting 300 yard drives in the 50's, 60's and 70's with a "REAL" wood head driver and steel shaft. Plus, the head was the size of most of today's hybrid club heads!!!!!!!
PS: For our golf tourney I have come to the conclusion that MASS-DEBATOR and THE BUCK will be on opposite teams and will probably face each other in the "singles" matches.........
Does the fact that we have differing opinions on this mean that I have to get slaughtered in the singles portion of the Tourney??? Just kidding. And Fritz I want you to know that as I sit here completing make-up state testing, my students just looked at me puzzled as I basically snorted when I read the Azinger line. Kudos to you.
ReplyDeleteMan theirs alot of arguing going on and people feeling they should clarify themselves and im not involved.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I tend to be a Tiger hater. That is just because of the non stop media coverage on him. Just like Favre, i like him but hate listening to crap about him.
Tiger made one bad move here(golfwise). He needed a week or two to warm-up but he made the best choice on what week to come back. The masters doesnt fuck around. Wasnt it McCord who was banned from being on CBS because the Masters committee didnt like what he said. It will be a nice safe place for him.
I will be routing for Tiger and will take him over anyone in the field. Now if John Daly was playing that would be different.
P.S. sign up for my tourney picks, looking for more players, dont be scared.
MASS....wasn't it you a few blogs back who, when I was ranking players, made the comment that you thought The Buck was the only one of the group who could beat you??????????? I hate to just put anyone else in the field up against you like a lamb to slaughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess I'll limp off after I shoot my 120 or whatever you think I shoot
ReplyDeleteI think on any given, day depending on how we play of course, anybody can beat anybody... Except for The Tiger, I mean The Buck. I think he could even pull it off with a torn ACL. I know Fritz that you mentioned earlier that I only play once or twice a year and am lucky enough to post a score in low to mid 80's, but most people cant ever do that so I'd take that. You do have a beautiful dog tho!
ReplyDeleteWheres the Buck??? I was promised something!
Fritz I knew I was going to pay for that comment! I will give you another to bash me for. Right now I am not even sure I can swing a golf club. I have a shoulder that is messed up from either a lifting injury or something else so that right now I might not even be competition for the Tank that is Frank. I hope that I receive the healing necessary to play in the tourney. Maybe I should check into a clinic, since they seem to be miraculuous healers these days. Oops, there I go again.
ReplyDeleteMASS...just bustin ur b_lls. By the way I think im gonna announce the tourney to be May 8th so that gives u over a month to heal...
ReplyDeleteBOTTLE...if you played more u might give The Buck a run for his money!!!!!
