The end of a GREAT ERA has ended. As a Florida State Seminole fan i would like to say that
FSU is losing a great leader. He is arguably one of the greatest coaches ever. I do believe it is about time that he should retire, but what the man has done for your school let him make the choice of coaching one more year or not,
dont force it upon him. I
applaud him for not accepting the offer they gave him of just being a figure head. He along with his players made
FSU a well known school, and feared opponent to play. I just hope
Jimbo can come close to what he has been able to accomplish.
Bobby
Bowden
2 National Championships '93,'99
14 Straight Seasons with 10+ wins
14 Straight Seasons finishing in the Top 5
388-129-4 overall record(if they just had a kicker they would have a few more over Miami)
'99 first team ever to go AP wire-to-wire #1
His teams declined a little at the end, (never should have let his son be the O.C.) but the man is a
Legend who built Florida State.
DADGUMMIT!!
Have A Day!
I things come to an end. Like it or not everything has a start and a finish.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it is with Bobby Bowden's coaching career at Fla State. I'm glad to have seen Bowden coach and win national championships. I don't believe he has gotten as much credit as he deserves. I certainly would rather play for him than Joe Pa.
Bowden was the first college coach to really become a team manager. He believes in hiring the right people for assistant coaching positions then staying out of their way. Maybe if anything, Bobby should have taken a little more control over such things as play calling, etc...
The fact of the matter is that big time recruits nowadays start looking at the age of the head man and can't help but wonder how much longer a 70 year old will continue. The decision is do you really want to be in your junior year and have to go through a brand new coach who didn't recruit you? I think this more than anything has affected Fla State's demise over the past few years.
Goodbye Bobby. Keep your mind sharp!
