Remember......2009

Every year we go through changes. We grow. The grey appears (it will. just wait.) relationships come and go. People pass. But time does not stand still.  And so with it we must continue....

Over the past year we witnessed:

Steelers win the Super Bowl
Penguins won the Stanley Cup
Lucas Glover - The US Open
Michelle Wie wins her 1st tournament
Yankees BOUGHT another World Series
Florida Gators defeat the Oklahoma Sooners to win the BCS
North Carolina Tar Heels win 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship
Obama became the 1st "sort of" black President of the U.S.
Swine Flu (H1N1) - did you get your vaccination
Who gives a f_ck who won the NBA Finals!

Lest we forget, those we lost in 2009:
  1. Donny Mitchell - great guy. luv ya man
  2. Chad Spice - thank!
  3. Michael Jackson - shame his "freakness" over took his artistic ability
  4. Farah Fawcett - Since I was born in '66 I got to grow up with Farah in her heyday. Any boy during 1975 - 1980 watched Charlie's Angels and acted like they "really" liked watching it.
  5. Patrick Swayze - This blog did a pretty good memorial for the Dirty Dancer. Love ya man!
  6. Captain Lou Albano - I actually met the "Godfather of Wrestling" when as a teenager a white caddy stopped me on Main Street in Georgetown asking for directions to the Lewes Ferry.
  7. John Hughes - Children of the '80s remember "The Breakfast Club", "Sixteen Candles", etc...
  8. Natasha Richardson - actress dies at 45 after a skiing accident
  9. Ron Silver - law and order
  10. Steve McNair - don't start an affair with a young lovestruck crazy woman or you may find yourself shot
  11. Bea Arthur - Took a lot of heat for her looks, but made a ton as "Maude" and the "Golden Girls"
  12. David Carradine - I loved "Kung Foo" on Friday nights, ah so grasshopper. We all have our sexual secrets, let's hope we don't die during them like the "Kill Bill" actor.
  13. Karl Malden - Biggest nose in film. If you watch movies, chances are you've seen him.
  14. Jett Travolta - John's son. What a trajedy.
  15. Ed McMahon - "Hi-Yo!"
  16. Edward Kennedy - he got the chance to die naturally. not while drowning in a locked car
  17. Dom DeLuise - go catch an old Dean Martin Show or watch Smokey and The Bandit II
  18. Ricardo Montalban - "ah, corinthian leather", Fantasy Island, Khan, etc...
  19. Walter Cronkite - the face of news in the 60's and 70's
  20. DJ AM - That's ok, I never heard of him either.

  22. Paul Harvey - The rest of the story is now over.
  23. Billy Mays - how do you make a million bucks doing infomercials?
  24. Danny Gans - supposedly big act in Vegas. I only ever saw him while playing in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am\
  25. Jay Bennett - member of band WILCO.  Me either........
  26. Henry Gibson - Goggle him and you recognize
  27. William Safire - here's political figure for Bradley
  28. Army Archard - ???
  29. Dominick Dunne - author
  30. Larry Gelbart - created M*A*S*H
  31. Super Rocking Mr Magic - another rapping dj nobody will remember
  32. James Whitmore - had the bird in his pocket in The Shawshank Redemption
  33. Soupy Sales - comedian from 50's, 60's, 70's
  34. Lucy Gordon - 28yr old Spider-Man 3 actress hung herself. Can it really be that bad at age 28?
  35. Billy Powell and Donald Evans - 2 original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd who survivied horrific plane crash in 1977 which killed which killed several members..."What's your name, little girl....."
  36. Les Paul - Jimmy Page played one, I had a 1959 model in college.......guitars silly!  Les Paul was Jimmy Hendricks on the guitar before there was a Hendricks. Early founder of the electric guitar and make of the Gibson Les Paul model....wish I still had mine, but I needed cash around the age of 22.
  37. Marilyn Chambers - broguth porn to the fore front with "Behind The Green Door" in 1972. I was 6 and don't remember much from the film........
  38. Ellie Greenwich - songwriter....."Leader of the Pack", "Da Do Ron Ron", .....
You lived, we loved, we give thanks!

Going into 2010 I wish for the following:

  • A winning football season for the IRISH
  • Some sense made of the BCS
  • World Peace
  • Playoffs for the Dolphins
  • Packers meet the Vikings in the playoffs and Aaron Rodgers smoke Brett Favre
  • Colts lose in the playoffs then their starters get the rest of the year off.
  • To make a hole in one
  • See Bradley Layfield hit a green in regulation.
  • Delmarva Power to blow up!
  • Orioles to finish above .500
  • NBA refs to make a traveling call
  • Hopefully less rain
  • Happiness and good health to all I know....

DISGRACE!

The Colts ought to be ashamed of themselves!

In a game against the Jets they quit. Ahead in the 3rd quarter they pulled most of the starters and basically gave the game to the Jets.

Gone is their chance at an undefeated season. To be immortal for all time. Instead they give some wimpy reason about resting the starters and preventing possible injuries.  What a bunch of crap!

How many times have we seen the Colts and other NFL teams ahead by 30 or 40 and the starting QB is still in the game?  They don't seem to think pulling the QB when up by 40 with 3 minutes left in the game is a good way to prevent injury.   Hell, earlier this year the Pats were up by 40 at halftime against the Titans and Tom Brady starts the 2nd half and comes out throwing 5 consecutive passes for another score!

What an insult to history and tradition!  Lombardi would call Coach Caldwell a panzy.

I hope now the Colts get eliminated and all of this special preparation is for naught!

Well, at least my favorite team, THE MIAMI DOLPHINS, still have the only undefeated team in NFL history. The 1972 Dolphins were 14-0 in the regular season, then went on to win all playoff games and the Super Bowl.    I don;t think Larry Csonka was ever taken out of a game!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Merry Christmas to all who blog and read this blog!

I hope all have had a great year and that your families are healthy and happy!

If you have kids relish every minute of this holiday season. They don't stay young for ever.  Don't be afraid to be a kid yourself and remember, Santa is alive!   There's a little Santa in all of us!

Also, don't forget what this time of year is REALLY about, the birth of Jesus.   Say a prayer, be thankful, and pass it along to the kids.

Blogging is a little slow right now. I'm sure we're all very busy, but I'd like to hear from "The Buck", "DA Booth", "Keep It Rollin", "The Odds Man", "Frank the Tank", "Robert", and "The Advisor".

Keep checking as I am preparing a BIG end of the year Blog.  Plus, I want to hear what you all got for Christmas.  What was your "Big" gift?    How much did you spend?   More than planned?    What was the gift you wantedto buy, but couldn't find?

Tune in tomorrow pm or Friday......

"Luv Ya Man!"

Wendy's 3Tour Challenge

Just sitting here watching the Wendy's 3Tour Challenge and have some observations:
(for those of you living under a rock, this is a tourney between the PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA Tours)

  1. Christie Kerr is cute!
  2. Suzann Petterson is very cute!!
  3. Natalie Gulbis is just down right HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Fred Couples still has as smooth a swing as a human could want.
  5. Bubba Watson is a "tool".
  6. Nick Price still swings as fast as ever.
  7. Stewart Cink is "really" bald.
  8. "I" even get nervous when Freddy putts.
  9. It's depressing to see people play golf in short sleeves in the sun while we sit under 6 inches of snow! After 3 months of continous rain.
  10. Nick Price used to be able to putt.
  11. Freddy is SMOOTH.
  12. LPGA can be proud of their win. (Even though they hit from tee boxes 100yds or more less than the PGA)

Rabbit Ears

Did anyone catch the story good ole Roy Williams kicking a fan of an opposing team out of the Dean Dome for heckling one of his players. Yes that's right, good ole Roy had heard enough from the fan so he turned around, pointed him out to security and had him removed. You might ask, what did the fan say that was so bad that Roy acted this way. Well here is how it played out. Deon Thompson is at the foul line about to attempt a free throw when the fan, get ready for it, said, "Hey Deon, don't miss it." Can you believe the audacity of this fan, to go into the Dean Dome, and heckle a North Carolina player. Well Roy can't as evidenced by this comment:

"I don't think anybody should yell anything negative at our players. Period. Let's don't make it a bigger thing than it is. But I just don't think anybody should yell anything negative things toward our players when you come in on our tickets to watch a game."

Oh boy Roy, put the Rabbit ears away and just coach your team. Its not like the guy was drunk or screaming curse words at your players. Your teams have won two national championships in the recent years, so grow a pair, let your skin get a little thicker, and stop worrying about what the fans are saying coach your team dagummit. Stay Classy Roy....

MY CHRISTMAS LIST

With the Christmas season upon us here is my wish list.  Feel free to add on in the "Comments" area.

  1. Boise St and TCU bowl game end in a tie.
  2. Change the "Ground can't cause a fumble" rule. Hold on to the ball. If it comes loose, it's a fumble.
  3. Ban the stupid ass looking facemasks like Peyton Manning wears.
  4. Change pro football's "Break The Plane" rule. (Why is it you can score a touchdown by just breaking the "plane" with the ball, but if you field a kick in the endzone you need to physically break it with your body, not the ball, to be considered out of the endzone?)
  5. Orioles sign some help for the bullpen.
  6. Rid the NFL of the synthetic turf fields. Bring back natural grass.
  7. Get rid of Major League Baseball's late summer trade dealine. Go to the playoffs with the team you've had all summer, not be able to get a new player for the last 2 months of the season.
  8. Develop some kind of playoff system so I no longer have to hear schools like Boise State cry. (Again, they played 1 real game this year vs. Oregon. Rest of the schedule had such "powerhouses" like Miami of Ohio, Fresno St., Bowling Green, California-Davis, Tulsa, Hawaii, San Jose St., Louisiana Tech, Idaho, Utah St., Nevada, New Mexico St.)
  9. Notre Dame to get some big defense recruits.
  10. Notre Dame to win more than 6 games next year.
  11. Shorten the NBA, NHL, and MLB seasons.
  12. Allow LPGA players to wear bikinis while playing.
  13. Have cheerleaders on the PGA Tour.
  14. Ban Serena Williams everywhere!
  15. For the Oil Companies to make more money.  They must need it!
  16. All Delaware elected officials to take a year leave without pay instead of cutting all employees' pay. (Aren't people who run for political office supposed to be doing it because they want to "make a difference" not for the power and the money?)
  17. Yankees...please bring up a prospect as a starter so we know you still have minor league teams.
  18. Golf Channel, please develope a different concept. "The Big Break" has run it's course.
  19. Someone develop a pizza, cheesesteak, and honey bun with 0 calories.
  20. please, someone bring me a dozen chicken wings....

2009 Hypeman , uh, I mean Heisman Award

I writing this in red to honor the college player I believe should win this year's Heisman Trophy. Why red? Well because it's the color of the Stanford Cardinals.... and my choice is TOBY GERHART.

Let me show you my case....

The Heisman is supposed to be an award for the year's outstanding college player who not only dominates, but is a most valuable player.... While all of the candidates are good (I refuse to use Great, because I believe that word to be overused today with athletes), I break it down this way..

1. Tim Tebow:  Fine player and a gentleman.  Won the award as a sophmore.  Had a good year, but not great.  Only threw for 18 TD's.  Did run for 12 more.  But not good enough.

2. Colt McCoy: Has had a fine career at Texas, but the award is not a career award.

Let me break down the position of QB for you further:  According to statistics Tebow and McCoy were hardly anything but the best at even their position this year.   Tebow is the 49th ranked qb in yards thrown, had only 18 TDs with 5 Interceptions.  McCoy was ranked 6th in yds thrown with 3512, had 27 TDs and 12 Ints., but his QB rating of 147 is lower than Tebows of 159.   Compared Houston's Case Keenum who threw for 5449 yds with 43 TDs and only 9 Ints. and the number just don't stack up.   HELL, EVEN JIMMY "The Quitter" Clausen threw for more yds than either Tebow or McCoy, plus had more TDs and 8 fewer ints than McCoy.

3. Ingram: Only the nation's 5th leading rusher with 1542 yds. Scored a nice 15 TDs.  30 receptions.  Nice player, good stats, but keep in mind the quality offensive line he gets to run behind.  Most hyped player by the media this year for the Heisman.

2. Suh:  1st round NFL pick. Want him on my "D" line, no question.  Most dominating in all of college football?  No.    Hard for 1 guy on a defense to be most dominating.  Block him even with 3 and Nebraska still loses games.

1. TOBY GERHART:  Ok, I saw him play in 4 games this year and he was by far the most dominating player I saw all year.  He singlehandedly ran my Irish out of town.  Check these out.....
Led the nation in rushing with 1736 yds
Led the nation with 26!!!!!!! touchdowns. Matter of fact this set a new NCAA record for TDs.
Led the nation in scoring with 160 points (#2 guy was far behind with 138 points)
Only had 10 receptions, but had a 14.9 yd per catch average.
3 games over 200 yards (200 vs Washington, 223 in a win vs Rose Bowl bound Oregon, and 205 vs ND)
Also rushed for 178 vs USC and scored 3 TD's against the condoms.

I could go on, but my choice is biased and each could make a case.  I vote for the white runningback. God knows "Whitey" needs a hero!

"if the van's a rockin, don't come a knockin"

Peace out!

Heisman/Cincy

After looking at the stats and what each player means to their team i am changing my vote. I don't believe this man will win but i believe he should win. I originally thought it should be Ingram, after reading who the Heisman is given to i thought different. It goes to the Most outstanding/valuable player to their team. Suh is the only candidate that completely fulfills that requirement. Ingram, Gerhart, Mccoy, Tebow, yes they are all unbelievable players but their teams would be at the same point they are at right now without them. Suh has dominated every game and was even more dominate in the big ones. Like his 12 tackles 4 sacks against Texas. This man has to go up against huge offensive lineman double teaming him and running backs hitting him low at the knees every play and still dominates. I don't believe any other player means as much to their team as this man. I think it will be Ingram or Mccoy, but it should be Suh.

As for Cincinnati, i was so glad to see the senior leaders step up and call out their ex-coach for up and bitching out on them. Most of these young men had this man sitting in their living room giving them all these promises about what he wants them to do and what he will do for them at the University of Cincinnati. According to the players he sat in the locker room and told them he would not leave, then goes to the press conference and says he is willing to talk to ND if they want. Then comes along the shinny gold helmets and he ducks out on them right before the biggest game probably in school history. I was delighted to see these leaders take responsibility for the team. They responded like they should, they were pissed and hurt that a man that promised them so much just left them. I know he is not the first coach to do this, but i cant remember a time players came out like this. I never really thought much of the Cincinnati's team when it comes down to playing a tough opponent, like how they really struggled against Pitt. But, i see these guys playing for alot more then just the Sugar Bowl trophy. Watch out Florida. As for Coach Kelly good luck at Notre Dame, i will admit I'm not the biggest fan of ND i usually like to see them lose except against USC, but i am a fan of college football and do believe they should be a top 15 team. I just don't think he is the man to do that. Maybe they should give coaches the same rules as players, if they move up a level or to a different team at the same level they should have to sit out a year.

Have A Day!!!!

TIGER'S WHITE CHRISTMAS!

(sung to the tune of White Christmas)

Tiger's dreaming of a white woman
just like to whores he used to know
Where the fake boobies glisten,
and the po po listen
for Escalade tires screaching in the snow

Tiger's dreaming of some white ass
With every text message he writes
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your mistresses be white

All I Want for Christmas is my 1, 2, or 3 !!!!!!!!!

This weekend the BCS got it's one and only Christmas present from Santa. The only one they were wishing for and the sons of bitches got it.

The BCS had it all setup going into this weekend and it looked like everything was going to workout for them. But, the Grinch (Nebraska) stepped in and almost ruined it for them.

The BCS got a huge break from the officials of the Texas/Nebraska game. I personallly think Texas should be out of it for being so stupind during the last 30 or so seconds.

The idiots had one time out and decided to screw aroound, take their time, and then run a rollout pass with like 6 seconds left. Then McCoy half ass throws the ball out of bounds and some how magically strikes a phantom piece of something which stops the clock at 1 second (allegedly).

The official review shows the ball land out of bounds as the clock goes from one second to zreo. Couldn't really tell if the ball hit anything other than the ground. The refs had about a half a second window to determine if there was one second left to run one more play or if the game ended with a Nebraska victory.

But the refs gave Texas one last shot and the BCS avoided having to choose between TCU and Cincy.

So they got they got their match up of 1 2 or 3 and they can still say the BCS system works.

My pick for the Heisman is the Ingram kid from Bama. He totally trashed Florida's #1 defense and has been lighting it up all year. Tebow shouldn't get it because he was crying like a little baby after the loss. And McCoy shouldn't get it because he totally masacred the last drive and almost lost the game. I love how he said after the game that he knew he had one second left when he threw the ball out of bounds. Tell you what McCoy... If you had a red N on your helmet that game, you would have lost!!!!

Til next time,

Dig It!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, where have you gone Joe Dimaggio......?

Charles Barkely once said, "I am not a role model". A comment many didn't want to hear and criticized him for. But what Chuck meant was that he's just an athlete. One who was fotunate enough to make it to the pros and get paid a king's ransom. That's it. Pro athlete's shouldn't automatically be viewed as people we or our youth should emulate.

Flash forward to the present and look at El Tigre and his harem of models, waitresses, sex pots, etc...

Tiger promoted a clean cut image. Dressed neatly and articulate, Tiger was the image of an athlete who, like him or hate him, could be viewed as someone who succeeded in his field, promoted his sport, strived to be the greatest of all-time, and started foundations to help others.

Now the paint starts to peel and we see a glimpse of actual reality.

A late night auto accident......an enraged wife who just so happens to carry golf clubs around with her.....reported damage to the entrance of his home from a domestic altercation.... taped voicemails requesting a former lover to cancel her phone service..... and now transcripts of texts sent indicating he was "gonna wear you out" (to his cocktail waitress), and "have you been fu.ked in a while?"...

I guess earnings in the range of over $1 Billion is just not enough. Or maybe its the attraction which allows a person to get more??

You can say, Hey Tiger's human. That's a cop out! Not all humans cheat on their wives or as the days go by find out that multiple people were involved.

I'm beginning to think that Tiger, who at Stanford, reminded me of "Urkel" now has the looks, power, and money to go crazy. Maybe getting married wasn't the best thing for him right now?

Say what you want, but the greatest golfer of all time is still Jack Nicklaus. And just think, Jack was able to win 20 majors and still be married for the last 50 years! With all this happening I suspect Tiger in 2010 will experience another major drought.

Who's next.....Derek Jeter?

Dadgummit

The end of a GREAT ERA has ended. As a Florida State Seminole fan i would like to say that FSU is losing a great leader. He is arguably one of the greatest coaches ever. I do believe it is about time that he should retire, but what the man has done for your school let him make the choice of coaching one more year or not, dont force it upon him. I applaud him for not accepting the offer they gave him of just being a figure head. He along with his players made FSU a well known school, and feared opponent to play. I just hope Jimbo can come close to what he has been able to accomplish.

2 National Championships '93,'99

14 Straight Seasons finishing in the Top 5
388-129-4 overall record(if they just had a kicker they would have a few more over Miami)
'99 first team ever to go AP wire-to-wire #1

His teams declined a little at the end, (never should have let his son be the O.C.) but the man is a Legend who built Florida State. DADGUMMIT!!
