Buck, you took that to another level... touche!
1) I have to admit that I was not thinking outside the box on that one. I feel there needs to be stiffer penalties for some of the actions of these athletes. Although I am not sure how, and who should enforce these rules and regulations. I very much agree there needs to be a much stronger placement of blame on these athlete for their own actions, and great that Oregon coaching staff took it upon themselves to punish Blount. Anyone allowed to participate in athletics, at any level, needs to be held a little more accountable for themselves. At the collegiate level these are now men and can think for themselves!
2) In the case of Ted Bundy... I would have to say that is a very big exception to the rule. Didn't see that one coming.
I am glad something like this site has come along. Good to know that sometimes you can say what you feel, so until the next time...
Keep it rollin!

Welcome KIR!!!! Yes, my Ted Bundy comparison was a stretch but I think I made my point. I'm tired of student-athletes, mainly football players, getting the bad wrap from the anti-athlete morons. Football generates a shit load of money for most colleges. The players are put under a microscope and disected by the media, fans, and opposition. I here all the time... athletes take easy classes, they are on scholarship, they get special treatment... enough already!! Colleges make millions of these kids and they are forbidden to receive anything in return. Sure, they have a full ride but they aren't the only ones getting a ride. You think certain education departments aren't getting millions in grants and donations from big business? You think the science department doesn't have some dream team coming up with new shit every year and reaping the benefits? You think Jimmy Neutron isn't getting a 7 figure contract from some big company because he created some revolutionary thing? Lets not be so quick to jump on the athletes and say they have it made and poor Jimmy has to study when he isn't going to 5 one hour classes 3 days a week. The athlete's job is sports, the student's job is to study!! Thats the way it is and as long as football rules, DEAL WITH IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI really haven't commented on the NCAA because they are worthless. It's like bitching about our government... it's a waste of time and pointles because they will do their own thing anyway. The NCAA basically cares about two things. 1) Monitoring illegal activity between student-athletes so they are not involved with any agents or receive any $$$ or perks. 2) Making sure the BCS stays intact so they can keep raking in the cash. They don't give a crap if a player, in good NCAA standing, gouges a guy's eye out. They don't care if a player goes on a 12 day shooting spree. Now, if he had a agent and got paid for it, while driving a booster's BMW, then the NCAA would jump all over his ass. I have a idea on who can monitor this type of behavior, The Police! I don't think assaulting people is a play in the playbook. Lock the bitches up and then see if the schools and players take it more seriously??
Til next time,
Bring It!!!
I love this shit. Good use of Ted Bundy, if only he had killed those people on the football field then we may never have known his name.
ReplyDeleteThe Buck, you make a good point, wow never thought i would say that. Spikes and Blount should get locked up. Their are only two good things i can really say about the NHL. 1. They have a short painless preseason. 2. When a player assaults another in a dangerous manner they get charged by the police (i dont mean those little fights where they pull the other guys jersey off and punch at his padded ribcage) i mean when they hit people with sticks in the head and stuff like that. Charge these guys! If only they were taking Advanced Chemistry then none of this would have ever happened.
I am in total agreement with the 2nd papragraph. That goes along with what I was saying about how do we punish these actions. I like the last option, lock 'em up so the NCAA can't make any more money off of them...
ReplyDeleteI have to take a line from the infamous "E-Dog" and say "let me play devil's advocate". Are you saying the students that are there on grants/academic scholarships don't have a chance to lose their academic scholarship if they don't "maintain"??? They are just as much at risk if they do something wrong or slip up (academic probabtion & loss of monies etc...).
I am a huge supporter and fan of scholastic/collegiate sports. I am not saying that all student athletes are given special treatment, but I would venture to say (without doing any research) that a large percentage of those that are in trouble have a very long history. That's not saying they can't change with the proper guidance and structure.
As far as the colleges making millions on these kids... true, I can't argue that. I would say that again there has to be more regulations. Who knows how and when. I think athletes, colleges, and board admins are driven to succeed by the almighty dollar, but then again aren't we all??? Seems like there needs to be another reason but I can't think of one.
Let's face facts. The everyday average jock/student is a completely different story from that freak of nature we like to call the next great Walter Payton or Mike Singletary. These kids strive to be as great as and better than these infamous athletes. (Leads into another conversation.) There are a lot of things "given" to those students so they are able to preform better on the field and in the classroom. All so someone else can reap the bountiful benefits...
I hope you all know the system itself is F'd up! Colleges/Educational facilities were never designed to be a breeding ground for athletics. Never built to be a farm system for professional sports!
ReplyDeleteColleges, see William & Mary, the 1st college in the colonies, were designed to teach, open the mind, develop talents so that people may acheive a higher occupation. Also developed to expand the mind for the well-to-do class who never had to work, but time to read and ascend to a higher meaning of life.
Enough of that, college kids as far back as the mind can go used athletics as a reason to have fun, drink beer and whiskey, and travel to other local colleges for competition and more drinking. Only when the advent of a formal system such as the NCAA, TV, and money has college/high school athletic become the monster it is today!
The average college kid doesn't play sports for the school. He/She may play on a "Club" team or intramurals, but that's it. Hell, I played on the "club" rugby team at UD. You know why? Because it was fun and we traveled to other campuses and partied. (I remember the time the bus left us at Temple and when UD dropped it as an official school sport because of the partying)
Maybe we should get our schools and colleges back to what they are for.....AN EDUCATION! All those thugs with rap sheets the length on my _ _ _ _ will then find themselves working on a loading dock or WALMART instead of attending their weekly "Images In Photography Which Means You DOn't Need to DO ANything But Read Sports Illustrated" class.
F'em and their criminal behavior!
I can't believe it! I'm watching the Thursday night ESPN college pregame show and they start talking about Brandon Spikes of U Florida.
ReplyDeleteI was apalled when "tool" Jesse Palmer made the statement the Spikes deciding to take a full game suspension instead of a half game was a great show of integrity and basically how good of a person he is.
BULLSHIT! People with integrity don't try to gouge people's eyes out! A sportsman plays the game as hard as possible, but within the rules and does not try to hurt people on purpose.
Brandon Spikes is a "thug" and another example of an athlete who does terrible things then get held up as a "beautiful" person when they do the things that normal, good people do regularly without having to go out of their way>
The average college kid has to participate in intramural/club sports because they aren't good enough to play with the Varsity. They drink before, during, and after their games because their are no fans to get upset over the players puking all over themselves. You really think "average joe student" wouldn't want to be on the Varsity team if they could be. If Coach K came to a "average Duke student" and said, Hey buddy, how about being Duke's starting point guard?" I'm sure the kid would say, "No thanks coach, I'm happy playing in the second hand gym and getting drunk with my bros afterwards." Yea Right!! He would jump all over that shit in a heartbeat. Why do you think almost all colleges have a fanatic student section? Why aren't they playing flag football during the big game? Because they love the to be a part of what they can't be a part of.
ReplyDeleteSure, Brandon Spikes gouged a guys eye out and he should be punished more severely than he was. But as far as I know, this is the only critical event the Florida Gators have had to deal with all year. One player out of 100+ over a 5 month season. I would say thats a pretty low and good percentage. Meanwhile, there are a thousand little drunk ass dousche bags running around UF campus causing all kinds of shit and slipping chicks ruffies so they can get laid. But one Brandon Spikes is more interesting and more meaningful than those thousand dousche bags combined, so we here all about Brandon and nothing about the dousche bags getting into trouble.
If we are going to get colleges back to it's original form than lets invite everyone to the party. How about the chicks who started a escort service at UD in the 90's?? They didn't play sports. How about my drunk ass roommate who got written up for alcohol violations every other night? He didn't play football. How about the guy who was locked up for being one of the biggest drug suppliers on campus? He didn't play football. I could keep going but I wouldn't want to ruin the reputation of the fine, law abiding "average college kid."
By the way...glad to know the original purpose of school athletics was to promote alcoholism!!
This is.... The One True Word!!
OK, let's review.....
ReplyDeleteThe point was not that colleges orginal purpose was not to promote alcoholism. If you reread you'll see the point was that higher educational facilities were designed/built for education! Not for a place where the downtrodden thugs of society can have a place to play ball! Sports on a formal level began in colleges from the loosely organized sporting events WHICH were originally played for something to do and because competition is a human trait among most. The beer drinking results from the friendly competion. POINT: next time play golf with your buddies and don't have a beer.
The issue which is extremely tiring is when the "student" athlete gets held up to a "god-like" level when they do the right thing! The right thing we all, as normal everyday, human beings do. Should I get applauded by ESPN the next time I walk out of WALMART and mistakenly miss paying for an item and I walk back in to correct it? How about the time when the cashier gave me too much money back and I brought it to her attention? SHould I be applauded and told to the country how much integrity I have? NO, I GOT TO PLAY SPORTS FOR A UNIVERSITY, GET FREE TUITION, TRY TO HURT SOMEONE BY GOUGING HIS EYES OUT, THEN BECAUSE OF PRESSURE BREAK DOWN AND SAY I WANT THE WHOLE GAME OFF INSTEAD OF HALF! Boy, that's a lot of integrity! BS
YOU KEEP ME ROCKIN, YOU KEEP ME ROLLIN!
Ok, let's review...
ReplyDeleteAnonymous... I'm a little confused about your convictions?? Are you against our current college sports programs? Obviously you have made it clear that colleges need to go back to the 1930's style and sports only be club/intramural?? Do you feel all college athletes are "downtrodden thugs?" Because a handful of dipshits, out of thousands, screw then the whole batch is flawed? See, I don't feel it's very fair when people make their opinion of a group/organization/profession based on some bad apples. I feel the current college sports system is great. Sure, it's not perfect and it is agreed that $$, NCAA, media, agents, and greed have certainly infected college sports.
PS- When I play golf I don't drink!!! I take my golfing competition very seriously and want to be in tip top menatl and psyichal condition. Kind of like the Varisty and not the club teams! Besides, inorder to compete against Fritz, one has to be at his best!!!
Til next time,
I just lied!!!!!!!!!!!
