Wildcat

If your not the Miami Dolphins stop running the Wildcat or whatever stupid ass name you give it. With the exception of the Dolphins i have not seen any good come from this offense. Last night the Eagles ran the "Spread Eagle" once every 5 plays and all it did was kill any momentum they had going. The Cardinals ran it against the giants and i think they had a penalty every time they lined up in that formation.

Their is a reason the Dolphins run this so well. Their head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach all come from a very strong coaching background with the option offense. Unless you are willing to commit a lot of practice time to this offense to run it well, like the Dolphins do, then stop running it. NFL defensive players are to fast for this option crap.

HAVE A DAY!

  1. I agree in a sense. The dolphins do practice and run the "Wildcat" very well because it is an actual part of their offense. Other teams seem to just use it as a wrinkle, an add-on to simply try and trick the defense. The Dolphins install it in their gameplan and have planned times where on the field and when to use it. You can clearly see when watching the games that the Dolphins practice it a lot more and use a lot more variations from it. I also think Ronnie Brown is suited for running it. He can run, pass, and looks to have good ball skills for handing off and fakes.
I agree NFL defenses are faster than college, but I don't agree that any kind of option attack is unsuitable for the NFL. I think that sometimes the NFL coaches get too "vanilla" in their preparations. Plus, the NFL is a "win now" league and coaches are too intimidated to try something new which they can be blamed for if it doesn't work. Case in point, the Cleveland Browns seem to rather lose scoring 3 points a game with an NFL "conventional" offense rather than scoring 3 points a game trying something new. If you're going to suck why not at least try something new. Dumb is continuing to do the same thing over and over again hoping for different results.

  2. The reason the Dolphins run the "Wildcat" so well is that they are the only team that truely uses it as their main offense. A team with the Dolphins on their schedule only sees the "Wildcat" one time a year, maybe 2 if they are conference foes, and the rest of the games they see the typical West Coast, Spread, Pro Set, Run and Shoot offenses. Teams are used to these offenses and have a grasp on how to defend them. When you play a team one time, and their offense is "one of a kind," then it's a lot harder to get the grasp of how to defend it. Case in point... The "Wildcat" busted up the Jets D and the Jets D is a very good defense with a great defensive coach.

If a majority of the teams ran the "Wildcat" then it would not be as effective. I do give the Dolphins credit though. They have done really well running it and they have the players to do so. I agree with DA Booth that these other teams shouldn't be throwing it in as a wrinkle because every team is going to know whats up when a running back or Vick is in the shotgun. The Dolphins do this all the time so defenses don't know whats coming.
