USC WEEK!
All college games this weekend are over. It's now the start of USC week in South Bend. After a week off both the IRISH and the CONDOMS (trojans for the slower reader) get ready for a very meaningful game this coming Saturday.
An IRISH win, would improve ND to 5-1 and hopefully gain some legitimacy in an otherwise strange year. Maybe then Notre Dame, our mother, will get to be included in the Top 25. (more on the polls later) So far, the IRISH have wins over Nevada, Michigan State, Purdue, and Washington. There sole loss was a last minute heartbreaker to a revamped Michigan team.
USC is also 4-1 with wins over San Jose State, Ohio State, Washington State, and California. The one loss was to the same Huskie team which lost to the IRISH. A win keeps the BIRTH CONTROLS in the hunt for a BCS game and an outside shot at a National Championship. A loss throws that out the window and makes winning the PAC-10 and the Rose Bowl a back up plan
As Tina Turner once said, "TWO GO IN, ONE COME OUT".
Even though his team is averaging 32.6 points a game, Charlie Weis has seen his time on the "hot seat" this season. (of course the defense has given up 23.8 a game. Take the Nevada game out (35-0) and the defense has given up 29.75 a game) The alumni and fans like myself love ND and for the most part Weis, but I think we are getting short on patience to have a dominating team. 4-1 is great, but all but one has been a nail biter. I just want to see the "D" dominate for once!
With that said, "Why isn't ND ranked in the Top 25?"
YES, I UNDERSTAND THAT A LOSS SATURDAY AND A 4-2 RECORD DOESN'T DESERVE RANKING, but I'm talking RIGHT NOW, THIS WEEK!
You want to tell me ND is not one of the top 25 teams right now? Well, let's see, here are the teams, coming into this weekend, that I SAY the IRISH can beat:
#24 Missouri (record 4-1) - Lost 27-12 Saturday to #21 Nebraska and looked quite vanilla while doing it! The 4 wins are over Illinois, Bowling Green, FURMAN, and Nevada!!!!!!!! Do you want to count on 1 hand the total wins by those 4 teams?
#20 Mississippi (record 3-2) - Yes 3 and F' ing 2! Jeven Snead is the most overrated QB in Div I football. I hope your fav pro team doesn't draft him. Their 3 wins are over Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana, and Vanderbilt!!!!! Add to this the fact they've only scored 13 total points against South Carolina, and Alabama COMBINED!
#18 BYU (record 5-1) - Record looks good. Hope ND is 5-1 after saturday. Good win over OU to start the season, but since then they haven't beaten anyone other than the likes of Tulane, Colorado State, Utah State, and UNLV. Give me a break! Oh, and did I mention they got bitch slapped 54-28 by a 2-4 Florida State team?
#17 Auburn (record 5-1) - This is the pick you'll want to argue with me about, but read on.......
Lost saturday 44-23 to 3-2 Arkansas team!
Have 5 wins you say.....over a good WVU team, a 0-4 Ball State team, a 2-3 Louisiana Tech team, a 3-3 Tennessee team, and a 2-4 Mississippi State team.
#8 Cincinnati (record 5-0) - OK, undefeated, ranked in top 10, great for the Bearcats. Check out this tough
schedule they've played so far.......Rutgers(1 good year), Southeast Missouri State (typed in black because they're so damned obscure I have no idea what their colors are), Oregon State, Fresno State, and Miami........of OHIO!
Bust me if the IRISH lose saturday, but I'd lay money Charlie and Jimmy could put up at least 35 or more on everyone of these pretenders!
